Strategies for Promoting Social Tolerance (with Emphasis on the Role of Social Capital and Cultural Capital)

Study and research in the field of social tolerance as one of the effective factors in increasing the level of cultural and social interactions, participation, cohesion and social security, sense of security and empathy can play a significant role in the economic, political, cultural and social development of the society. In this regard, social capital and cultural capital can be mentioned as two important factors in promoting social tolerance. Using Bourdieu's theory of character and the field, the present article deals with the impact and role of cultural capital and social capital and its dimensions on social tolerance. To measure social tolerance, a combination of Petersking and Vegeta theories and dimensions of identity tolerance, social tolerance, political tolerance, and moral-behavioral tolerance have been used. The statistical population of the research is the citizens of Mazandaran province aged 15 to 44 years. The research method is survey and descriptive and the data required for the research have been collected through a questionnaire. Data analysis was performed by SPSS and Emus software. The results showed that there is a direct and significant relationship between social capital and cultural capital and their dimensions with social tolerance. The results of the structural model test indicate the direct effect of social capital (Beta: 0.29) and cultural capital (Beta: 0.39) on social tolerance. Also, the structure of cultural capital and social capital has been able to explain 38% of the changes in the structure of social tolerance. In other words, these two components are 38% effective in promoting or reducing social tolerance and can be used in strategic planning of various organizations and institutions.
