Strategies for promoting media literacy through the national media
In contemporary societies, it is necessary to teach media literacy as a knowledge and skill to people to help them use media knowingly. On the other hand, national media can have an effective role is general education with regard to its functions in Islamic Republic of Iran. Therefore, the present paper mainly seeks to identify techniques and solutions to promote media literacy through national media.
The data have been gathered through library studies and interview with experts.
Findings have been classified into five categories of capacities, obstacles, techniques and solutions based on policies, techniques and solutions based on trainings, and key organizational roles.
The results have been obtained in four general parts including capacities, obstacles, solutions and techniques, and key organizational roles. Altogether, thirty solutions have been identified, which include identifying the perspective of media literacy, establishing guidelines for producers, producing programs based on media literacy, using entertainment framework to convey the concepts of media literacy, creating analyst, critic, and enquiring audience, observing the standards of age grading, inspiring the regime of media consumption, mainstreaming media literacy, training human resources, adapting models and designing a domestic model for media literacy, providing implicit and explicit trainings for medial literacy, teaching the skills of media literacy, and teaching the principles of writing and journalism.
