Historical Transformations of Teacher Discourse in Contemporary Iran

The concept of teacher has found different meanings during different historical periods. Historical events, Educational Necessities, Social Conditions and Relations of Political Forces have caused changes in the meaning of the teacher in Iran. This article deals with the teacher's discourse transformations in contemporary Iran. The research method is descriptive and with a qualitative approach. The method of gathering evidence is the documentary method and the method of analysis is the method of discourse analysis. This article describes the discourses that have formed around the concept of teacher. In general, four discourses can be identified in the historical course of the concept of teacher in contemporary Iran. Literate and knowledgeable teacher, expert and skilled Teacher, Nationalist and Patriotic Teacher, and Islamist and Revolutionary Teacher are discourses that have been formed around the concept of teacher in Iran. the historical study of the teacher's discourse shows that a fixed and definite meaning of the teacher cannot be imagined. The concept of teacher has been transformed in different historical periods. These semantic transformations have had implications for teacher training.
