Effects of fentanyl and sufentanil on hemodynamic status due to endotracheal intubation in patients undergoing Coronary-Artery-Bypass-Graft(CABG) surgery

Hypertension usually begins 5 seconds after intubation and peaks within 1 to 2 minutes, returning to baseline after 5 to 10 minutes. Due to the importance of this issue in this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of fentanyl and sufentanil on hemodynamic responses during laryngoscopy and intubation in patients undergoing Coronary-Artery-Bypass-Graft (CABG) surgery. This prospective descriptive study was performed during 2018 in Shahid Madani Hospital (Tabriz University of Medical Sciences) with the participation of 40 patients undergoing CABG surgery. Patients were injected with fentanyl or sufentanil before intubation and after 2 minutes of intubation. The response of blood pressure (systolic and diastolic) and HR to intubation were measured between the two groups. The mean rate of change of the two groups was analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance, which generally shows significant changes in the rate of change in HR per minute (p-value = 0.0001). Also, there is no statistically significant difference in the rate of change in HR per minute between the two groups (p-value = 0.758) and it can be said that the two drugs did not have different effects. In general, no statistically significant differences were observed between the two drug groups. In fact, although both fentanyl and sufentanil modulated hemodynamic changes due to the cardiovascular response to intubation, no significant difference was observed between them in terms of drug effect.
