The Maqtal Recitation Ritual on the First Ten Days of Muharram in Shushtar
Maqtal recitation has long been a prominent mode of recounting the Ashura afflictions. In Iran, it has been a ritual by means of which the memories of the sublime aims of Imam al-Husayn get revived. Such recitation has ling been an established practice at Al Tayyib Mosque of Shushtar, Khuzestan. It was most probably initiated by the late Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Muhammad Mahdi Al Tayyib, hence the mosque has been credited with being referred to as the capital of maqtal recitation in Khuzestan. It is held on the first ten days of Muharram, with its culmination on Ashura. The present work is a result of both field and library research activities
