Scrutinizing Preventive Alternatives in Reducing Divorce RatesThrough Legislative Approach
According to official statistics, family lawsuits, especially divorce rates have risen in the country. However, in religious teachings, divorce is condemned. The Islamic Consultative Assembly, as a legislative body, can play an important role in reducing the divorce rate. The present study seeks to provide legislative solutions to reduce the divorce rate by using library studies and in-depth interviews with family experts, lawyers, counselors, family court judges, and so forth. Considering the effective role of counseling and pre-marital skills training in reducing family disputes and, consequently, reducing the rate of family lawsuits, especially divorce, it is necessary to establish "Family Counseling Centers according to articles 16 and 17 of the Family Protection Law adopted in 1392". However, according to Article 25 of this law, referral to counseling centers is required only in the case of consensual divorces, and thus according to the law, there is no force or obligation for premarital education, while training skills before marriage will have a greater impact on marriage applicants to reduce divorce rates.
