Effect of social self-sacrifice on strengthening social capital among the citizens of Yazd city

Abstract:

Social capital is a resource in which the people of society sacrifice their personal interests for the common good. Social capital is an infinite wealth whose preservation and production require conditions to be met. One of these conditions is social self-sacrifice, which is a symbol of altruism and philanthropy. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between social self-sacrifice and social capital among citizens aged 16-64 years in Yazd. In this study, 384 people were selected as the sample by survey method and by cluster sampling. A questionnaire was used to collect data. Cronbach's alpha was 0.79 for social self-sacrifice and 0.84 for social capital. Findings indicated that there was a direct and significant relationship between social self-sacrifice and social capital and social self-sacrifice explains 35% of the variance of the dependent variable (social capital). The results also showed that there was a significant relationship between age and marital status with social self-sacrifice, but there was no significant difference between social self-sacrifice in terms of gender.
