Analysis of effective factors in the expansion of informal settlements: Shaheed Bahonar town of Mashhad

Currently, one of the most important challenges facing urban management is informal housing. This phenomenon is one of the undesirable consequences of urbanization in today's world, which has been formed as a result of rapid industrialization and economic and social inequality. Due to the deprivation and lack of urban life facilities in informal settlements compared to other urban areas, it has made them the center of acute urban problems and problems and against sustainable human development. Considering the importance of the above topic, the present research has been conducted with the general aim of investigating and analyzing the expansion of informal settlements. A case example in this research is Bahonar town of Mashhad city. The present research method is descriptive-analytical and practical in terms of its purpose. Research data has been collected through questionnaires and interviews. The statistical population of the research consists of households living in Bahonar town of Mashhad, which was selected through random sampling of 367 households based on Cochran's formula. In this research, qualitative (content analysis of interviews) and quantitative (multivariate regression test) findings have been used for data analysis. The obtained results indicated that economic and social factors such as employment, access to suitable housing and family migration played a decisive role in the expansion of informal settlements in Shahid Bahonar neighborhood of Mashhad.
