The First Iranian Shafi’is and Their Role in the Propagation of the Shafi’i School During the Fourth Century AH in Iran

Abstract:
The Shafi'i school is one of the four Sunni schools of religious law initiated in Iran, and Iranians had a chief role in its foundation. The Iranians get familiar with Shafi'i jurisprudence by learning the hadith from Shafi'i. Some people of Khorasan visited the student of Shafi'i and introduced this school to Iranians. This article surveys the initial presence and acceptance of this school in Iran. The conclusion is that the Shafi'i school in Iran was active during the middle of the third century AH in the cities of Merv and Esfarayen, then from Nishapur to Dinawar and Kurdistan in the middle of the fourth century AH. This propagation was after the movements in knowledge during Tahirid and Samanid dynastie
