On the Martyrdom of Ali al-Akbar
Ali al-Akbar defended his faith and father to the last drop of his blood on Ashura. Based on historical evidence, aged over 25, he was the eldest son of Imam al-Husayn and the first of the Hashimids who joined the battlefield. He was a very brave combatant and fought fiersely. He continued fighting until Murrah b. Munqidh al-Abdi attacked and injured him. When he fell down injured, the rest of enemy soldiers attacked him and tore his body into pieces. Upon his tragic martyrdom fate, Imam al-Husayn and Zaynab rushed to him. There Imam al-Husayn ordered other Hashimid youths to take his mutilated body to the tent where other martyrs were laid.
