The Effect of Cold Dialysate on the Fatigue in Patient Undergoing Hemodialysis

Fatigue is one of the most common side effects which is known as one of the most important stressors and is expressed as a debilitating complaint. Despite advances in pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical fields, this problem still exists, so the present study was conducted to determine the effect of lowering the temperature of dialysis solutions on fatigue in these patients. This two-group randomized clinical trial was performed on 60 patients undergoing hemodialysis in Mashhad hospitals in 2017. The temperature of the dialysis solution was set at 35°C in the intervention group and 37°C in the control group. fatigue of patients in both groups was measured by the Piper scale before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using SPSS 18 statistical software and t-test, Mann-Whitney and paired t-test. The results showed that fatigue in patients undergoing cold hemodialysis was significantly reduced in the postoperative phase (P <0.05). Cold hemodialysis solution (35°C) can help reduce fatigue in hemodialysis patients. Therefore, it is recommended that care providers use this method to reduce the complications of hemodialysis in these patients.
