Investigating the best architectural design strategies compatible with the climate in Mashhad City

The climate-friendly architecture of any geographical area is important for creating comfortable buildings and improving energy consumption. Using standard data of EPW and Rayno software and Climate Consultant, the sunny hours were analyzed using three-dimensional modelling of a desired area of ​​Mashhad city. Moreover, the wind direction, the degree of hot and cold days, the degree of comfort of Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI) were evaluated. Finally, the best strategies for designing architecture compatible with the climate of Mashhad using ASHRAE55 were summarized in 20 categories. The analysis of sundials using a three-dimensional model showed that with the compaction of the urban fabric, sundials decrease in these areas and also the main source of sunlight will be on the southern side of buildings. Regarding the direction and speed, the winds in Mashhad are generally south and southeast and are generally exposed to light winds, most of which will be 424 hours in winter. The maximum degrees of hot and cold days belong to January and July, respectively. Exploring Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI) showed that in general it can be said that spring and summer, especially May, experience the highest range without thermal stress, and February has the highest cold stress. In general, 47.84% of year there is no thermal stress.
