Abstract:
Medium density fiberboard is one of the most important products in building and interior design. In such applications, reinforcement of mechanical properties and improving dimensional stability is essential. In this research, the effect of zeolite compounds with the mixtures of 1, 2.5 and 5 % (on the basis of fiber dry weight) and three positions of mixing (mix with fibers, mix with resin and mix with glued fibers) on the physical and mechanical properties of medium density fiberboard was investigated. Physical tests (water absorption and thickness swelling) and mechanical tests (internal bonding and bending strength) were performed on the samples. According to the results, the use of zeolite compounds in all levels and mix stages except for mix with resin, improved dimensional stability (water absorption and thickness swelling) and reinforcement of mechanical properties. In the meantime, the optimum physical and mechanical properties were achieved by using zeolite compounds at the levels of 2.5 and 5 % in mixed with glued fibers.
