Investigating the relationship between care burden and resilience in family caregivers of stroke patients
Background &
Family caregivers of stroke survivors due to the care burden; They suffer physical and mental erosion. Resilience is one of the factors that can help them in facing these changes and adversities. In this regard, the present study was conducted with the aim of determining the relationship between care burden and resilience in family caregivers of stroke survivors in 2023.
Material &
In this descriptive cross-sectional correlational study, 116 family caregivers of stroke survivors in Hamadan Be,sat Hospital were selected by convenience method. Data collection tools included: Modified Rankin disability scale, Novak & Guest care burden and Connor-Davidson resilience questionnaires and demographic profile form. Data analysis was done by descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation coefficient in SPSS 25.
The results of study showed that the mean and standard deviation of care burden and resilience scores were 86.24 ± 13.47 and 40.18 ± 9.15; respectively, which means that they had severe care burden and lower resilience than average. It was also found that there is a negative and statistically significant relationship between their care burden and resilience (p < 0.05, r = - 0.255).
The care burden for most of the surveyed people was high which can be reduced by investigating and solving its causes. It is suggested that health care providers with provide appropriate training; focus on reducing the burden of care and strengthening the resilience of these people and in this way play an effective role in increasing their physical and mental stability.
