Structural Equation Modeling of the Relationship between Ego-Strength, Defense Styles and Object Relations in Cluster B Personality Disorders with the Mediating Role of Cognitive Emotion Regulation

The purpose of this research was to develop a structural model of psychological vulnerability of emergency medicine doctors based on dysfunctional attitudes, interpersonal cognitive distortions, and defensive styles with the mediation of emotion regulation.

The present research method was a correlational description. The statistical population of the research included all emergency medicine doctors working in Tehran hospitals in 1400, from which 380 people were selected by multi-stage sampling method (cluster and census). In this research, among the tools of the psychological vulnerability symptoms checklist (Najarian and Davoudi, 2018), dysfunctional attitudes (Weisman and Beck, 1978), interpersonal cognitive distortions (Hamachi and Boyokuzterek, 2004), defense styles questionnaire (Anders and colleagues, 1993) and emotion regulation (Garnefsky and Kraij, 2006) were used. In order to analyze the data, Lisrel-V8.8 software was used. Also, in order to analyze the research data, structural equation modeling method was used.

The research findings showed that the research model has a good fit. Also, the results showed that dysfunctional attitudes have an indirect effect on the psychological vulnerability of emergency medicine doctors with the mediating role of emotion regulation. There is an indirect effect between interpersonal cognitive distortion and psychological vulnerability of emergency medicine physicians with the mediating role of emotion regulation. There is an indirect effect between defense styles and psychological vulnerability of emergency medicine doctors with the mediating role of emotion regulation. There is a direct effect between dysfunctional attitudes and psychological vulnerability of emergency medicine physicians. There is a direct effect between cognitive distortions and psychological vulnerability of emergency medicine doctors. There is a direct effect between defense styles and psychological vulnerability of emergency medicine doctors. There is a direct effect between emotion regulation and psychological vulnerability of emergency medicine doctors. There is a direct effect between dysfunctional attitudes and emotion regulation of emergency medicine physicians. There is a direct effect between cognitive distortions and emotion regulation of emergency medicine physicians. There is a direct effect between defense styles and emotion regulation of emergency medicine physicians.

According to the results of the present study, health professionals and therapists can reduce the level of psychological vulnerability in emergency medicine doctors by reducing dysfunctional attitudes, interpersonal cognitive distortions, and underdeveloped and neurotic defensive styles and increasing the cognitive regulation of emotions. to improve
