The Effect of Face to Face Education and E-learning on the Improvement of Safety Culture and Observation of Patient Safety Principles
Medical errors and insufficient attention to safety culture and patient safety principles are serious public health problems and critical factors of patient mortality. Many studies have emphasized to the necessity of effective measures to increase safety culture and to observe the safety principles by nurses. Because of education of nurses had done by various methods, thus the aim of this review study was to comparing the effect of face-to-face and e-learning education on promoting safety culture and patient safety principles by nurses.
A literature review was conducted through a comprehensive search in the following Persian and English databases: SID, Irandoc, PubMed, Elsevier, PMC, and Science Direct between 2013-2022. “Patient safety”, “safety culture”, “safety principles”, “e-learning”, “electronic education”, “education”, and “nurse” were used for the search.
Fourteen studies were found that twelve of them were studied effect face-to-face education or e-learning and two of others related to comparison between face-to-face and e-learning in safety culture and patient safety principles by nurses. Both face-to-face and e-learning had been effective in promoting patient safety culture and safety principles by nurses. Based on the results of studies, both face-to-face and e-learning education can be effective in improving and promoting safety culture and safety principles in patients that lack of study in a comparative study of two learning methods, it is suggested to conduct more studies in this field among nurses in order to achieve the most desirable level of quality of nursing services and improve patient safety.
