Abstract:
Introduction

Self-injurious behaviors are related to psychological problems. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the role of impulse control, cognitive strategies of emotional regulation, tolerance of emotional distress and rumination in predicting self-harm behaviors in adolescents referred to temporary harm reduction centers in Tehran.

Material and Method

This research was descriptive and correlational. The statistical population of the present study included adolescents aged 14 to 18 years who referred to the Transitional Injury Reduction Centers (DIC) in Tehran, District 12 (Shosh-Harandi neighborhood) in the first four months of 2022, who were referred by a simple random sampling method. 300 people were selected to these centers. Research tools include Self-Injury Questionnaire (SHI) (Sansone et al., 1998), Impulsivity Scale (BIS-11) (Barrett et al., 2004), Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ) (Garnefski et al., 2001), Tolerance Scale Emotional Distress (DTS) (Simons & Gaher, 2005) and Rumination Scale (RRS) (Hoeksema & Morrow, 1991) Was. In order to analyze the data, Pearson's correlation test and multiple linear regression were used simultaneously.

Results

The results have shown that there is a positive and significant relationship between impulse control and rumination with self-harm behaviors and a negative and significant relationship between emotional cognitive regulation and emotional distress tolerance with self-harm behaviors (p<0.01).

Conclusion

Also, the results of the regression analysis showed that impulse control, emotional regulation cognitive strategies, emotional distress tolerance and rumination explain a total of 0.83 of self-harm behaviors.There is a relationship between impulse control, cognitive strategies of emotional regulation, tolerance of emotional distress and rumination with self-harm behaviors in adolescents referred to transitory harm reduction centers in Tehran
