Examining the naming patterns of Muslims from the holy prophet’s mission to the end of the Umayyad rule (Relying on the people of Mecca and Medina)
With the spread of Islam in Hejaz, the naming patterns of the ignorant Arabs changed and Islamic names replaced them. This process, which commenced with the actions of the holy Prophet (S.A), continued during the era of the Rashidin Caliphs and created a different Islamic model until the end of the Umayyad period. In the current research, the study of Muslims’ naming patterns in Hijaz from the holy prophet’s mission to the end of the Umayyad period is done in a descriptive-analytical way and using statistics. The results of the research show that in the first generation of Muslims, the names that were reminiscent of idolatry or had an unpleasant meaning quickly disappeared, and on the other hand, the names that showed monotheism became the dominant names in the second generation, although this change in the naming pattern of women it was done later. Also, the existing sectarianism among Muslims and the Umayyad policies against Shiism influenced the naming of Muslims and created a clear competition between the names of Shiite imams and the names of the three caliphs.
