Modeling the Relationship between Early Maladaptive Schemas, Personality Traits and Suicidal Tendency with Mediating roles of Self-Efficacy and Meaning of Life in Teenagers of Gachsaran City

The purpose of this research was to model the relationship between suicidal tendencies based on primary maladaptive schemas and personality traits with the mediating role of self-efficacy and meaning of life in Gachsaran teenagers.

The research method was correlational. The statistical population of the research was made up of all the teenagers of Gachsaran city in the academic year of 1400-1401, in the number of 10300 people, and 380 people were selected as a sample by multi-stage cluster sampling. The research tools were suicide tendency questionnaire (Mehrabi, 2019), primary maladaptive schemas questionnaire (Yang, 1998), neo personality characteristics questionnaire (Costa and McCree, 1985), self-efficacy questionnaire (Sherer et al., 1982) and meaning of life questionnaire (Steger, 2010). Data analysis was done using Pearson's correlation coefficient and structural equation modeling.

The findings showed that there is a significant relationship between primary maladaptive schemas and personality traits with suicidal tendencies (p<0.05), but there is no direct and meaningful relationship between some primary maladaptive schemas and personality traits with self-efficacy and the meaning of life (p<0.05). Also, the indirect paths of early maladaptive schemas and personality traits with suicidal tendencies with the mediating role of self-efficacy and meaning of life were significant (p<0.05).

Based on the results of this research, the proposed model has a suitable fit. The results of this study can be consolidated and expanded using longitudinal, comparative and experimental researches.
