Couples Lived Experiences in Types and Causes of Main Family Involvement: A Phenomenological Study

Abstract:
Background
The main family and the quality of the couple's relationship is one of the factors that according to clinical reports has a decisive role in creating and fomenting marital conflicts.
Aim
The purpose of this study was to investigate and classify information based on couples' lived experience of the involvement of main families in their life together and to classify the cause of these interventions.
Method
The study method was qualitative and phenomenological. The sample was 15 couples in Kerman who were selected by purposive sampling method. Then, semi-structured interviews were conducted with them and the data was analyzed by Colaizzi method.
Results
The results of the analysis of the interviews showed that the types of interventions in six main categories include interference in the personal affairs of the couple, interference in the form and type of relationship with the spouse and spouse's family, interference in children's affairs, Irrational expectations, thoughts and behaviors of the main families, Personal affairs, connection with indefinite boundaries; And the causes of interventions are divided into five main categories including dependence, cognitive errors, domination, helping the couple succeed in life and the existence of differences between couples and families.
Conclusions
It seems that the results of this study can help counselors and psychologists in counseling centers and quasi-family centers and educational institutions to have a more realistic analysis of the involvement of main families in the married life of couples.
