The Effectiveness of Group Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on Anxiety and Psychological Well-Being Mothers of Children with Specific Learning Disability
The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral group therapy on the anxiety and psychological well-being of mothers of children with specific learning disabilities. This research employed a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test / post-test design and a control group. The statistical population included all mothers of children with specific learning disabilities in Tehran during the 2022-2023 academic year. 26 mothers of children with specific learning disabilities were selected using purposive sampling and randomly assigned to experimental (13 mothers) and control (13 mothers) groups. The research instruments included the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI, 1988), the Ryff Psychological Well-being Scale (RSPWB, 1989), the Beck (2021), and Leahy (2007) cognitive-behavioral group therapy intervention program. Data were analyzed using multivariate covariance analysis (MANCOVA) with SPSS-24 software. The findings indicated that there were significant differences in the mean scores of anxiety and psychological well-being between the experimental and control groups, demonstrating the impact of cognitive-behavioral group therapy on reducing anxiety and enhancing psychological well-being in the experimental group (p < 0.05). It can be concluded that cognitive-behavioral group therapy has a favorable effect on improving the psychological well-being of mothers of children with specific learning disabilities.
