Abstract:
Today, the water crisis is mainly a governance issue. Enhancing water governance is vital for tackling present and future water challenges. Water governance involves the political, institutional, and administrative regulations, procedures, and processes that steer decision-making and execution, allowing stakeholders to voice concerns, express opinions, and hold decision-makers accountable for water management. The water governance principles set forth by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) strive to establish effective, efficient, reliable, and participatory public policies. This research utilizes the OECD water governance index framework to identify gaps and obstacles in water governance, using it as a diagnostic tool for assessment. Employing a descriptive-analytical research approach, the study collects data from various sources such as library resources, international reports, articles, and online materials. The results indicate a strong legal framework and executive bodies in water management, with a positive correlation between them. Nonetheless, the key challenges identified are in the tools, which are either partially implemented or inadequately executed.
