1.Investigation on grain yield and grain yield components in cultivars and lines of spring safflower

Abstract:
In order to determine yield & grain yield components in the superior spring safflower variety, a trial was conducted at the Karaj research institute for seed and plant improvement in 2002-2003. In this experiment seven safflower varieties were compared in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Some important traits such as: grain yield per plant, grain yield per plot, head per plant, grain per head, 1000 seed weight and branches were recorded during the growth period. Data analysis showed the maximum of grain yield per plant and grain yield per plot with 91.7 kg/ha and 1117 kg/ha were achieved in I.L.111 advanced line and the minimum of grain yield per plant and grain yield per plot with 23.7 kg/ha and 596 kg/ha was achieved in FO2 variety respectively. So, the maximum of 1000 seed weight, head per plant and grain per head with 37.5g., 17.5 and 56 were achieved in I.L.111 respectively. The study showed that there were positive significant correlation between grain yield per plant with grain yield per plot and grain yield per plant with head per plant, grain per head and branches. As a conclusion, the new and advanced line (I.L.111) can be introduced to Karaj and similar regions, as a suitable new spring safflower variety.
