Performance review of the project for special library services extension to non-members.
In 1996 IRANDOC proposed the provision of direct facility to library services as a method complementing interlibrary lending. A pilot project was launched under the designation Project for extension of special libraries services to non-members which lasted between 1996-1998. Under the project by producing a project membership card, individuals could refer to libraries and use all their services in-situ. If needed, by using a Lending Voucher, they were able to borrow the book they needed. The project covered 190 libraries in 64 universities and research institutes affiliated with the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology. Althogether, this repesented a holding of 5,391,212 volumes. 36,772 graduate students as well as 15,565 faculty members were enrolled in this project. During its lifetime, t 19,020 volumes from 148 libraries, in 54 universities located in 31 cities, had been borrowed by 7,179 graduate students and 520 faculty members. Of these, only 41 title were considered as lost. The damages incurred during this period was 5,000,000 rials which was paid for paid for by IRANDOC. The present article studies the project performance during its life time based on the amount of service exchanges among member academic instition, tjeir geographic distribution, Subject and language trends exchange volumes over period of months, quarters and years, and damages incurred. Charts and tables are presented to better describe and analyze the data presented in the present report.
