Influence of military training period on cadet student's mental health

Aims. Today, general health is one of the important social and scientific issues of the world, especially among militants. Reports of world health organization indicate that psychic disorders engaged10% of adults in the society and these disorders are going to be more appeared. This research was to determine the effect of military training period on general health of cadet students. Methods. In this research, 113 cadet students who were passing general training period in 2008 studied with Goldberg general health questionnaire (GHQ-28). Results. The average of acquired distinction from GHQ-28 questionnaire in the first days of military training period was 9.54±4.9 and at the end of the period was 9.67±5.5. Wilcoxon test showed no significant statistical difference between them (p=0.53), but the scores of range 1 (physical signs) and range 3 (social function) before and after intervention showed significant statistical differences (p<0.001 and p<0.02). "Man-Whitney" statistical test showed a significant relationship between participating in religious ceremonies and range 1 in pre-test (p=0.01) and post-test (p=0.001). Conclusion. Although the inherent characteristics of military training period have negative effect on mental health of students, but the arrangements used during the course, keep the mental health of students is a desirable level.
