Review Surveillance system in infectious diseases in the years 2007 and 2008 in South Khorasan province

Considering the importance of infectious diseases surveillance system to identify priorities in combating diseases and evaluating the surveillance systems, this study was developed to assess communicable diseases in South Khorasan province. This descriptive study was designed based on the data from diseases surveillance systems of 7 cities in South Khorasan province. All cases of important contagious diseases to be reported by telephone and written reports, from health houses to the hospital level, within health network system were surveyed. Information gathered from different cities was analyzed based on incidence levels. A total of 3540 and 4666 contagious diseases were reported in 2007 and 2008 respectively in surveillance system. The highest incidences attributed to Pedicolosis, animal bites, and dysentery in years 2007 and 2008 and. Tuberculosis incidence rate was 18.9 in 100,000 in 2007 and 17.7 in 2008, and lyshmaniosis incidence rate was14.1 and 24.9 in 100,000 population in 2007 and 2008, respectively. According to the results, the incidence of TB and Pedicolosis rate are more than national averages, but vaccine complications rate is less than average. These need appropriate intervention in surveillance system and administrative activities.
