Etymology and Usage of Zandik in Various Texts

Abstract:
The word “Zandik” was first used in karder inscription and it referred to the Manichaeans. Later the term was used for Mazdak disciples. The term “Zandik” became widely apparent in Islamic terminology, where it was used as a weapon for dislodging political opponents. Due to the vast usage of the word “Zandik” throughout history, the exact meaning of it remains ambiguous. This essay explains the etymology of the word “Zandik” and studies different perspectives on its meaning in various historical and religious texts. Another aim of this essay is to accept or reject the views on this topic.
