The effect of irrigation regime and plant density on growth and development, leaf moisture content and yield of sweet corn (K.S.C.404)

Abstract:
This experiment was conducted at Lavark Research Farm of the Isfahan University of Technology، using a 4-replicates split plot RCBD. In this study، effect of three irrigation regime in which three levels of cumulative evaporation from a standard Class A open pan was chosen as a main plot consisted I1 (70mm) as control، I2 (100mm)، I3 (120mm) and three plant densities consisting 65000، 75000 and 85000 plant/ha were considered as subplot was evaluated on development and growth stages، leaf moisture and economical yield of sweet corn (Zea mays L. cv. Saccharata) hybrid K. S. C. 404. The results showed that the I1 with maximum leaf area index (4. 57)، relative leaf water content (78. 3%)، leaf water potential (-2. 83 atmosphere)، kernels/ear (469) and longer ear length with 16759 kg/ha was out- yielded significantly at 1% levels of probability، respectively. Among yield components of green cob، ear length (0. 77**) and kernels/ear (0. 47**) were the most and the least correlated attributes to green cob yield. Also، it seem that in similar conditions with this study irrigation after 70 mm of accumulated evaporation from a standard Class A pan coincident with 75000 plant/ha become appropriate for sweet corn (Hybrid K. S. C. 404) production.
