Prevalence of Intestinal Parasites Infestation in Navy Forces of Sepah-e Pasdaran In 1385

Military personnel have potential for parasitic infestation, but it is little information in prevalence of parasitic disease in our countries. The aim of this study was survey of intestinal parasite in Sepah-e pasdaran navy forces. It was a cross- sectional study. 1002 persons from Bandar abbas and Persian golf islands were selected in simple random sampling. Demographic data and water consumption was collected. Stool sample evaluated with direct smear for two weeks. All persons were man with mean age of 21.08±2.29 years. 299 (29.80%) subjects had intestinal parasite infestation. Prevalence contained Entamoeba coli (8.4%), Giardia lamblia(6.6%), Entamoeba histolytica and dispar (2.2%) and Ascaris lumbricoides (1.7%). Prevalence of parasites didn’t showed correlation with any demographic variables. Infestation to intestinal parasite could cause gastrointestinal complications and in this study 30% of persons were infested with parasites. For this reason, evaluation about intestinal parasites should be done in military camps with low sanitation. So education should be considered for them.
