Preventing Cyber Victimization

It is not a long time that the new complex phenomenon of cyber victimization has been discussed by criminologist. Identifying causes and grounds of victimization is an important issue in cyber criminology. It has been believed that cyber victims, because of the different cyber situation, need more attention. Accordingly, some studies, more influenced by routine activity theory, have been done to identify and understand cyber victims. In this theory, the specific situation of cyber space is considered as the most significant factor of being victimized in the era. Considering the fact that identifying the risk factors of victimization in cyber is necessary to prevent crime in this space, in this article, we discuss the ways and methods of victimization prevention based on routing activity theory. As discussed in the theory, situational crime prevention and the external ways of protection or cyber police are the most effective solutions to combat cyber victimization.
