Situational Crime Prevention Paradigms

Situational crime prevention (SCP) contains 25 preventive techniques’ which impede the crime by changing the pre-criminal situations. It may be alleged that these techniques’ complemented after the development of criminology theories, have been based on some specific paradigms. The article aims to answer this key question: which paradigms dominate situational crime prevention? To answer the question, the article includes three parts in which some paradigms are studied. To analyze the paradigms on the one hand the criminological theories have been considered and from the other hand, the situational crime prevention theorized by the criminologists are being used. This study includes the fact that three paradigms dominate the SCP. The first relies on the situational deterrence theory and through putting some physical barriers, using the control equipments, and putting into access the mechanisms of deterrence in pre-criminal situation, tries to prevent crime. In the second paradigm, it is emphasized to eliminate the obscure situational factors which may increase the possibility of justifying the criminal behaviors by the probable offenders. Eventually, in the last paradigm, called in this text the stimulus-eliminator paradigms of pre-criminal situation, the situational factors stimulating the criminal incident are to be eliminated from the situational pre-criminal grounds.
