Suhrawardi (Shaykh al-ishraq) and Early Mysticism

The present paper studies the extent to which Suhrawardi (Shaykh alishraq) was aware of and influenced by early mysticism and mystics (from the formation of mysticism in second century ['AH'] to Ibn 'Arabi's time), and the extent to which mystical issues of that period included in Sohrewardi's works have come under careful scrutiny. First, it refers to some technical terms of early mysticism in Suhrawardi's works. Then, expounding mystic's personality from Suhrawardi's viewpoint, it seeks to see how much Suhrawardi (the Master of Illumination) was influenced by the mystics of that time in terms of scientific and practical Sira (conducts and states), and mystical and theosophical works. Finally, it touches on the extent to which mystical issues in Suhrawardi's works have been analyzed including theoretical and practical mysticism.
