Soil Erosion Zoning and estimation of the sediment yield in Maryamnegar basin, using experimental model

Abstract:
Every year nearly 2 billions tons of valuable soil is lost in Iran. Financial damages of this situation is 18.5 × 10 12 Rials. For prevention of this damage we need an appropriate method for reducing the soil erosion. Therefore we need information and data about soil erosion in the basins. The goals of this study are assessment of soil erosion and intensity of sediment production in the study area. Evaluation of experimental models efficiency such as FAO, EPM and PSIAC is another goal. In fact we compared the results of experimental models data with official’s data. Finally we producet soil erosion map for study area and found best method for assessment of soil erosion in the study area and similar basins. In this research we have used data received from field check, existing maps and meteorological and hydrometric station. After entering the maps in the ilwis software and geo-refrencing, we have created a table for each model mentioned above. Then appropriated value extract for homogenize area. After that with overlay of the layers, zonation maps for intensity of erosion prepared. In the next step, erosion maps that produced by models, were compared together with overlay method. At the end, PSIAC selected as the best model for zonation of soil erosion in the study area. Also for sediment yield estimation, PSIAC used as appropriate method for Maryamnegar and similar basins. On the base of above mentioned model, soil erosion at Maryamnegar basin has been estimated about 115495 ton/y and percent of soil erosion in the class of very low, low, medium, high and very high are 3.22, 43,37, 36,33, 13,45 and 3.63 of total area.
