Comparative evaluation of consultants by the residents and other clinical medical students in Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences in 1389-90

Background and
Purpose
Ëducational assessment is an important component for promoting educational system in the universities. Regarding the presence of some residents in different clinical departments of Sari Medical Faculty, there are medical students at different levels in Mazandaran Üniversity of Medical Sciences (MÜMS).Ôn the other hand; we did not find any study evaluating the correlation of assessment of university consultants by the students at different levels. Thus, this study was aimed to compare the assessment of medical consultants of MÜMS by residents vs. those by interns and medical students.
Materials And Methods
This cross-sectional study all of the departments of MÜMS that at the same time residents (at all of the levels) and interns or medical students were teaching, were included. Thus, six departments including pediatrics, cardiology, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine and psychiatry were evaluated. 183 students assessed 51 teachers through 1529 questionnaires. The questionnaires included 22 questions and a final 0-10 mark for each teacher. The data were evaluated by SPSS software.
Results
1 percent of the students were female and 39.4 percent of them were residents. Pediatrics and obstetrics in this six departments in a similar subgroup had a significantly better results than other departments (P<0.001). The results of 0-10 and 22-110 responses of the students had a correlation of 85% (r=0.85, P<0.01). The assessment of resident was significantly different (P<0.001) vs. those of interns and students. Women and men responded similarly (P=0.37).Çonclusion: Students at different clinical levels (resident, interns or medical student) had different ideas regarding their clinical educations and this should be considered in precise educational planning in different departments.
