The relationship between transformational and transactional leadership styles of coaches and athlete's satisfaction of Iranian Handball pro league

One of the most important outcomes of the leadership is satisfaction (Bass, 2006). Using appropriate leadership style raises the level of satisfaction. The propose of this study was to determine relationship between transformational-transactional leadership styles of coaches in the Bas's model (1985) and athlete's satisfaction of Iranian Handball pro league. The coache's leadership style was measured by Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) and player's satisfaction was measured by athlete's satisfaction questionnaire (ASQ). These questionnaires distribute between 218 athletes after determining validity by confirmatory factor analysis and reliability by Alpha Cronbach coefficient (α=0/95 for MLQ, α=0/95 for ASQ). Descriptive statistics was used to data analysis and one variable regression and multi variable regression were used to prediction athlete's satisfaction from transformational-transactional leadership styles of coaches. The results show that transformational leadership with (ß = 0/66) and transactional leadership with (ß = 0/19) can predict athlete's satisfaction. From all component of transformational leadership, Idealized influence with (ß = 0/37) and Individual consideration with (ß = 0/21), and from all component of transactional leadership, Contingent reward with (ß = 0/41), and management by exception(active) with (ß = 0/10) can predict athlete's satisfaction. Also Laissez – Fair Leadership with (ß = -0/31) can predict athlete's satisfaction.
