Abstract:
Objective
This study has been done in order to review the effect of client-centred occupational therapy on satisfaction and performance in self care activities among clients with stroke.
Materials And Methods
In this study,24 clients with stroke who were referred to the Rofeydeh stroke rehabilitation center based on the inclusion criteria were selected by randomized sampling.12 clients in the intervention group and 12 clients in the control group were participated that 2 clients from study group refused to continue study. Then the clients in intervention group received 24 sessions(each session lasted 45 min) client-centred occupational therapy in self-care activities. time of each treatment session for both groups was 45 minutes. Data collection tools, included a questionnaire for demographic characterize of clients, Canadian Occupational Performance Measure)COPM) and Barthel's ADL Index.
Results
There was no significant difference between two groups in satisfaction, performance and independency in self-care, before intervention. Also any significant differences was not found after intervention between two groups in satisfaction, performance and independency in self-care after intervention. But in each group a significant difference was found before and after intervention in satisfaction (p=0/009),performance(p=0/028) and independency in self-care(p=0/019)in intervention group. Also in control group, a significant difference was found satisfaction (p=0/011),performance(p=0/007) and independency in self-care(p=0/029)before and after that period.
Conclusion
Findings of this study showed that client-centred occupational therapy could improve satisfaction, performance and independency in self-care among clients with stroke, but this effect was not so much that shows the difference between two groups and a significant difference only was found between before and after the intervention in the study group.
