Germination and Emergence of Aryloxyphenoxypropionate Resistant and Susceptible Accessions of Wild Oat (Avena ludoviciana) from Andimeshk and Dezful

The effect of temperature (3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 ºC) on germination and, temperature (5,10,15,20,25 ºC) and sowing depth on emergence of Aryloxyphenoxypropionate resistant (DR4 and NR14 from Dezful and Andimeshk respectively) and susceptible (S) accessions of wild oat (Avena ludoviciana) were examined under laboratory conditions. DR4 and NR14 accessions, respectively exhibited a higher and lower final germination percentage (P>0.05) compared with S accession at constant temperatures. The final germination percentage of Susceptible and resistant accessions increased as temperature increased to 10 and 15 ºC, respectively and then decreased as temperature increased to 30 ºC. Although there was no significant difference between final seedling emergence of NR14 and S accession, DR4 accession exhibited a higher seedling emergence (P>0.05) compared to S accession. Seeds sown on surface showed maximum emergence percentage. Emergence percentage was reduced when sowing depth was increased. According to higher germination and seedling emergence of DR4 accession, it may be possible to exploit this trait in cultural management approaches. In a field with the DR4 accession, scheduled tillage may be practiced in order to promote DR4 seed germination and emergence over S accession, and consequently reduce the DR4 seed carry-over into the seed bank.
