Message:
Abstract:
Background
Fatigue is one of the most common symptoms in primary care that adversely affects work, family life, and social relations. The purpose of this study was to survey the relationship between work schedule and fatigue among the emergency personnel of Isfahan, Iran using the checklist individual strength (CIS) standard method in 2010.
Methods
This cross-sectional study was performed on 72 emergency personnel in Isfahan. A 23-item questionnaire and the 20-item CIS questionnaire were used to evaluate work schedule and fatigue, respectively. Data analysis was performed by regression analysis in SPSS16.
Findings
The results showed a significant relationship between work schedule and fatigue (P < 0.001). In fact, among the scheduling factors, satisfaction with working hours, rest breaks, and discipline were effective on fatigue. However, predictability did not affect fatigue. Moreover, work schedule mostly influenced mental fatigue, i.e. there were significant relationships between mental fatigue and satisfaction with working hours, rest breaks, and discipline.
Conclusion
More satisfaction with working hours, rest breaks, and discipline can reduce fatigue among the emergency personnel.
