This paper introduces a new definition for local mean to improve the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) algorithm. There is a lot of research going on the development of empirical mode decomposition algorithm. Due to the repetition of the local mean in each step of the sifting process of EMD algorithm, determination of the local mean is one of the important sections of this algorithm. In the proposed method, local mean has been calculated comparatively more accurate than common algorithm by considering the signal fluctuation between each two consecutive extrema. This modification which is made on the EMD method, controls the overshoot of the envelop curves in common EMD method. The modified EMD method can resolve the spectral components differing by less than one octave, more efficiently than common EMD method and gives better interpretation of the signal. The advantages of the present method have been proved through analyzing some simulated signals.

This paper uses principal component analysis (PCA) method for detection of faults in a five zone air handling unit (AHU). PCA approach is used to extract the correlation of variables in air handling unit and reduce the dimension of measured data. A PCA model is built to determine the thresholds of statistics and calculate square prediction errors (SPE) of new observations, which are used to check if a fault occurs in AHU. The fault detection system consists of a PCAbased fault detection code, a building management system (BMS) with three temperature sensors, control valve and output air controller signals. Allexperiments were carried out on air conditioning systemof the RAZAVI hospital in Mashhad. Five faults artificially introduced to the system, are as follows: (1) Hot air temperature,(2) Room temperature sensors,(3) Return air damper stuck, (4) Outdoor damper stuck, (5) Control valve damper stuck, signals. The results show that the PCA-based fault detection method is applicable and effective for AHU.

The purpose of this study is the aerodynamic design of 20 kW horizontal axis wind turbine using blade element momentum with 3D numerical analysis of flow around it. First, the aerodynamic coefficients curves of an airfoil are considered as input. Then, the geometrical characteristics of different blades including chord length, twist angle, relative angle and diameter of blades are calculated using this method. To select the best airfoil as wind turbine blade, power coefficient of 10 different airfoils are calculated and then compared to each other using the blade element momentum method. Also, to improve the performance, three airfoil types called NACA63-215 on the hub section, Riso A1-24 on the midsection and FX63-137 on the tip are used instead of just on eairfoil type from hub to tip. Designed blade is simulated and analyzed in ANSYSCFX software. In order to consider the effects of blades rotation, two domain solutions are used for flow analysis. The surrounded area around the blades is divided into the inner rotating and outer stationary regions. In both design and analysis steps, the results are validated with the other authoritative works in this field.

Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) technology is creating revolutionary changes particularly in medicine. Swimming microrobots can be specified as a kind of miniature biomedical robots which are designed and fabricated applying this technology. In this paper, inspired by microorganism's motion in nature, a three degree-of-freedom flagellar swimming microrobot is introduced and its three-dimensional motion is dynamically modeled. In our design, the body of the swimming microrobot is driven by multiple prokaryotic flagella which rotate in a fluid media and produce propulsion forces. Due to the small size and low velocity of swimming microrobots, their motion occurs in a very low Reynolds number (Re≪1) fluid flow. Therefore, the inertial forces are less significant compared to viscous forces. Resistive force theory (RFT) is applied to determine the propulsion force which is created by each flagellum. Based on the RFT theorem, the components of the viscous hydrodynamic force are calculated through resistive force coefficients and local velocities of flagellar. Simulation results show that by use of the three flagella the microrobot enables to do three-dimensional maneuvers.

In this paper the thermoelastic behavior of a functionally graded (FG) rotating disc with variable thickness is investigated with different methods. For this purpose, the temperature gradient along the disc radius is obtained by solving the governing heat transfer differential equation. Using this temperature gradient, Navier differential equation is developed. All the thermo mechanical properties of the material are obtained using the power law function of radius. The solution of governing differential equations is obtained using different
    Methods
analytical, semi-analytical and Differential Quadrature Method (DQM). Also, the results are compared with those obtained using finite element analysis. Considering that, the closed-form solution of these equations seems unlikely, determining the appropriate solution method with the sufficient accuracy and acceptable solution time is important especially for optimization purposes. The results indicate that the semi-analytical method is more appropriate in terms of accuracy and solution time comparing with other methods.

In this paper, stability analysis of a 6-DOF submarine is presented. In submarine design, geometry and architectural aspects for control surfaces are important for the stability of vehicle.. In this paper, the dynamic of a typical submarine is derived by Newton-Euler method. The hydrodynamic forces are modeled as the functions of velocity, angle of attack and drift angle. Forces on the control surfaces are modeled as the functions of velocity, angle of attack and their angles as well. For the stability analysis, linearized equations form is derived. Then stability limitation of the hydrodynamic parameters is presented. Moreover, the simulation results are verified by some experimental results.

Dissolution of base metal as a one of the early stage during initial phosphating, could with changing the surface texture of base metal, affect the morphology of applied coating. In order to study this hypothesis, the microstructure of carbon steel after removing the initial phosphate layer by grinding and elemental distribution on this surface was studied by SEM (Cam Scan MV2300) equipped with the energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) facility. The results shown that the small particles of the initial phosphate coating containing Zn and P, entrapped in the dissolved regions and notches of grinded surface. These elements could be considered as nuclei for crystal formation in during final phosphating. Beside, with increasing the repeating number of phoaphating, surface roughness increased that could be useful in rising surface activity and nucleation of phosphate crystallites. Thereby, with increasing the repeating number of phoaphating, fine-grained and denser coatings, without of any change in the composition of coating solution, were formed. Also, measuring the optimal-time coverage, thickness, weight and density of the coating showed that, with increasing the repeating number of phoaphating, denser coatings in the shorter time of operating were formed.
