To traditionalists art is of special significance. They divide it into three sacred, traditional and religious types. Sacred art is held to be of divine origin. Dr. Nasr regards such Sufi audition and dance as sacred art. Now the question is which Quranic verse or Islamic tradition designates the permission of these acts. In other words, can one infer their divine origin of permissibility from any literal meaning of Quranic verses and hadiths? Since sacred art is deeply connected with spiritual Paths in Sufism, the present article attempts to respond the question by consulting Sufi works using descriptive analytic method. Findings of this research indicate that although attempted to base the legality of audition and dance on some verses and hadiths and even responded the objections raised by their opponents, the revealed proof provided by Sufis are inconclusive and there is no verse nor tradition to signify lawfulness of Sufi audition and dance. Serious criticisms are to be made against the allegedly revealed arguments made by Sufis in favour of their view in question

Intelligibles as universal concepts are divided into three groups of primary, secondary logical and secondary philosophical intelligibles. Highlighting the role of presential knowledge in obtaining the latter sort of intelligibles Allama Tabatabaei has defined them as concepts that though abstracted by mind characterize external objects. Similarly, Mesbah Yazdi regards such terms as abstracted by mind and indicating mode of being. He also focuses the role of knowledge by presence and activities of mind in exploration of such concepts and in this way expanded the extent of secondary philosophical intelligibles. Whether or not such concepts exist externally is the matter of disagreement between Allama and Mesbah. According to Allama they are somewhat existent as depending altogether on other beings but in the eyes of Mesbah they lack any external realization and exist only because their origin of abstraction exists and so such concepts serve the purpose of characterizing the ways and modes things are.

Heavenly transmigration is transfer of human soul from worldly body to other-worldly one which is to be brought about in proportion to the virtues or vices he has obtained during his earthly life. Two fundamental problems arise in discussing heavenly transmigration. One is related to how human soul transmigrates from earthly body to heavenly one, i.e. the quality of its occurrence. The second problem deals with the way, as it were, target body is to be generated. As to the former question it should be maintained that the transmigration is possible through substantial transformation of human soul in its imaginal level rather than its separation from earthly body and joining otherworldly body. There are some rational principles in support of this view including the principality of being, gradation of its nature, substantial movement and the idea that perception forms are originated from rather than imprinted on human soul as result of which imaginal body is not to be externally created but is generated by soul itself and thus there is no transfer in the literal sense of the term but it is same body with which it has lived and now is transformed as result of its conduct. As to the second problem, one can explain by using such principles as immateriality of soul in level of imagination, its capacity to make forms and bodies, unity of intellect and intelligible and possibility of soul journey in three realms of being.
Based on the principle of unity of intellect and intelligible all human attainments in this world are united with his soul and determine his divine or satanic existence

Contemporary religious study has been interesting for many intellectuals including Dr. Soroush. In the course of his speculations he passed different stages. The first stage was his theoretical extraction and expansion of Sharia which continued in terms of expansion of prophetic experience. In his first theory he deemed religious knowledge as human, historical and relative. In the second theory, however, he extended it to the very nature of religion which in his view is historical and subject to change. In his new theory labelled by him as “Muhammad as narrator of Apostolic Dreams” he has taken one more step backward and in contrast with traditional beliefs he claimed to have opened a new window in understanding the process of revelation which in his view occurred altogether in dream and vision. He restricted the role of Prophet to narration and description of what he has seen in dreams and that is why he suggested interpretation-oriented understanding of revelation rather than literalism or traditional exegetical approaches developed in the history of Islamic sciences. In formulating and supporting his theory Dr. Soroush has arranged the argument in six premises. This article is an attempt to examine and criticize them undermining his argument which in eyes of the authors lacks any force and cogency

In the scheme of Quranic revelations and Islamic hadiths the locus of knowledge is heart and true science is identified with knowledge by heart. The most important characteristics of intuitive knowledge dealt with in revelations and hadiths are: God-gifted, extraordinary, immediacy and purity of any means of thought, cognitive, enjoyment of truth and reality, oriented to the Unseen immaterial domain and obtained through piety and spiritual internal and external exercises. Likewise and in following the pure Sharia mystics hold mystical knowledge as obtained by heart. To Ibn Arabi, true knowledge is immediate, gifted and God-bestowed knowledge of heart that is gained out of spiritual capacity through devotion, practical conduct and spiritual exercises. Clearly the correspondence of mystics’ views with holy Sharia of Islam is clue to their commitments to Islamic commandments and principles

World of existence is made up of perceptible and imperceptible beings. Some of these beings are in the range of and discoverable by human senses while others are beyond the capacity of human sensation and reason. Of the latter category are angels. Had it not been for Quranic revelations and Islamic traditions, they would not have been known to us and their characteristics, species and individuals would have remained hidden for our fellow human beings. Belief in angels, however, is so important in holy Sharia of Islam that is regarded as one component of doctrinal pillars beside faith in God, resurrection and Prophecy. Since Muslim theologians have relied on Quran and Sunnah in such matters and their arguments had great impacts on the belief of the public, their view on the nature of angels, their visibility and excellence in comparison with human beings will be worth noting and the present article attempts to have review on the views in question

Ideology is subject-matter in various fields of humanities including philosophy, sociology, political sciences, and religious studies. This inquiry is intended to explore ideology in the thought of Shariati and Soroush aims to give responses to following questions: what is meant by ideology in above-mentioned arenas. To which of them does each of these thinkers belong? Has Soroush taken a proper approach in his critique on Shariati? The findings of present paper show that philosophy holds ideology as a wrong experimental foundation for thoughts and awareness and sociology regards it be proper basis for social fact. Neglecting the meaning extent of ideology, Soroush has given an instrumental role and selectivity to ideology and negated all ideologies and criticized Shariati’s thoughts whereas the latter considers ideology as expressing a social fact and thus gives it a dynamic role and driving force, which due to the element of ejtehad (methodic independent thought in religious matters) can avoid dogmatism and static mind. Although Shariati has committed in determining the concept and reality of ideology, he regards it as necessary element for all human societies throughout the ages so much so that he considers the end of ideologies as echo of the conspiracies made by dominant systems of rule

More often it is stated that ethics in Islamic philosophers’ view is virtue ethics. The present study attempts to show that in Mulla Sadra it is an existential one which has extent to include both speculative and practical intellect. For in his view the epistemic components are the same moral ingredients regarded as ontological principles. Man becomes moral in proportion to the extent of his enjoyment of being. Criterion for this existential extent is correspondence with revealed-rational principles missing in virtue ethics. On the other hand, Sadra’s view of these rules and principles originated from the realm of existence does not confine his ethics to act-based one. Using descriptive analytic method the present paper attempts to show common aspects of virtue ethics and deontology-oriented and distinguish Sadra’s ethics from other views which focuses on moral pattern or velaya-based ethics

Both mysticism and Sharia hold Perfect man to be of two aspects: sometimes he is such a celestial realm that the whole being is clearly known to him, sometimes he is earthly that he knows nothing of even what is in front of him. These two paradoxical aspects of Perfect man’s knowledge gave rise to different opinions. On one extreme there are those who hold him to be of actual knowledge by presence of everything while on other side of extreme his enjoyment of such a presential knowledge is totally rejected and only knowledge at his will and proportion to his capacity was retained. Using descriptive- analytic with a critical approach devoid of extremist view the present article is to offer a new perspective of “actuality in terms of capability” and show that while perfect man enjoys actual and continuous knowledge, he might be subject to negligence because he is not aware of the mode and depth of knowledge

One of the prominent doctrines of religions in general and Islam in particular is issue of the Savior and waiting for him. Awaiting for Imam the Savior is regarded in Shiite sources as the most virtuous act. The mystery of its importance is the fact that it is not a verbal utterance but is realized in a peculiar setting, which is in Shiite traditions identified as the pinnacle of beliefs and good deeds. Those who are in highest degree of certainty and the most virtuous in their conduct dare nothing in performing good deeds and can be truly waiting for Imam of Age. The present article is to explain the philosophy of awaiting by describing traits of truly awaiting believers and their achievements and blessings stated in hadiths. In light of determining obligations and characteristics of awaiting believers one can properly respond the issue in question
