It might, in the Muslim world and religious culture, seem that "symbols" as terms are specific to the domain of theosophy and mysticism. Nonetheless, at the very beginning of the appearance of philosophy in the world of Islam, symbols were taken into consideration by Muslim philosophers; in this way they laid their specific philosophical foundations. If we dealt coherently and independently with those foundations and principles, we could reach some ontological study of the symbols with their own hermeneutical aspects in Islamic philosophy. The great Muslim intellectuals such as, Ibn Sina (Avicenna), Suhrawardi, Shahrazuri, Khaja Nasiru al-Din Tusi, Mir Dammad, and Mulla Sadra have, on the whole, give an all-inclusive picture of ontology and hermeneutical study of "symbols" which is entirely distinguished from that in modern hermeneutics. In this article, the author, as far as possible, attempts to explain the philosophical and hermeneutical principles of "symbols" in Islamic philosophy.

Foundationalism in one of the epistemological views on the nature of the knowledge and justification. This view considers the knowledge and justification as having two levels. In one level we have some basic believes that are justified without derivation from other believes. In the other level we have some derivative knowledge which is justified by the derivation of other believes. Most of the famous philosophers such as Aristotle, Aquinas and Descartes, hold this view. We will study critically the different versions of foundationalism.

What, in the holy Quran and the common usage by Muslim theologians, is substituted for God or His attributes is Allah (the encompassing of all His Names). Whether one may or may not use any names or attributes, though they are not found in the holy Quran, traditions, and the consensus of Muslim scholars, to refer to Allah, has been one of the most controversial issues among Muslim scholars, in particular philosophers and theologians. This is the question of touqifi (banned) names (namely, men are banned to apply any name to Allah of their own, for divine names are dependent on revelation). Another disagreement is whether the so-called names have any conformity with what is named or they are entirely strange names.Hanbalites and Asharites, from among the major theological Sunnite sects, have believed in the ban of such names and that the revealed Divine Names can be applied to Allah in perfect conformity i.e. Allah and His Divine Names are identical. Shiites and Mutazilites stand in the opposite side in the both questions. Though rejecting the ban of such names and yet having not a firm belief in that Allah and His Divine Names are identical, Matridites do not necessarily deny that the Divine Names, His Essence and Attributes are identical.Referring to Allah via many names such as, the Sun, Sunlight, the Sea, the Friend, the Beloved, the Associate, Charming, the Successor, the King, the Mother, the Bride, the Prey, the Hunter, and the like, Jalalu al-Din Muhammad Rumi (d. in 672 A.H.) has not been bound by their coming in the Holy Scriptures. Rumi, however, considers the true and best appropriate name of Allah, like the Night of Qadr, as being missed among such names. In both cases, he is not Asharite, but he has a Matridite position. Viewing his idea on the core essence of faith and the priority of Divine Mercy, Rumi considers the intention of man prior to his words and as the appropriate means of salvation.

This article is about to resolve the apparent contradiction in Philo's discourse on theology. This contradiction is due to two aspects of Philo's character: his faith in Judaism and his belief in Plato's philosophy. The author holds that Philo's transcendent theology, which takes God as much transcending Plato's ideas and even the highest idea, brought about a new change in the idea of God in the Greek philosophers. Philo did, however, make use of Stoicism in order to reconcile the Omnipresence and panentheism (anthropomorphism) with the transcendence (deanthropomorphization or that He is the other wholly) of God Who transcends the whole creatures. The two above-mentioned sides, according to Brehier, are not in one and the same level, but one is above the other. It means that God is absolute in His True Reality. When construing Him as the creator and the like, we, nevertheless, consider Him as having some kind of relation with the creatures and ascribe to Him some similar attributes.

As Mulla Sadra's latest view on ontology, the theory (that there only exists one single and unique being in the whole existence; a theory much similar to panentheism) has had some fundamental effect on the most issues of conventional philosophy. This view, according to which the true existence is confined to Allah Almighty and the whole contingent beings can only be considered as His manifestation and appearance (Shan) goes to rebut one of the most significant principles of metaphysics, i.e. the principle of diversity. Having embraced the diversity in unity in his Tashkik theory of being, Mulla Sadra was able to explain many philosophical principles, including the principle of causality. Tashkik means that the difference among similar things spins over the very similarity shared by them, for example sunlight and moonlight, firelight, candlelight, gaslight lamplight and searchlight, all are light but their difference is in the very light that in one case is weak but strong in another; so is existence. After having embraced the theory of individality of being and having thus changed his view on ontology, Mulla Sadra had no choice, to justify the common principle of causality and the relation of Allah as the first cause with all creatures as His effects, but to borrow the theophany theory from the Islamic mysticism and propose it to his metaphysics. Allah Almighty, according to this theory, has manifested Himself, via His own expansive existence that includes the whole creatures, in different sorts of manifestations and theophanies.Mulla Sadra has thus reduced the principle of causality from ontology to theophany. Such a theory can only be considered as a mystical approach to causality.

Karramiyya was one of the most important sects of Islamic theology in the ninth centaury. They had a Widespread influence on the cultural and social cirumstances in the Muslim world. This theological school was considered as the religious innovation. They also participated in the political affairs and could influence on the goverment, so in addition to the study of their theological views we can study their political behaviors. This essay briefly reviews their theological views in the context of their political and social circumstances

Ontology and cosmology have since long been in the center of philosophical questions preoccupying the minds of philosophers. In modern times, particularly after Kant's critical philosophy, those cosmological questions were steadily brushed aside, and intellectuals began mainly to deal with epistemology.Whitehead came from among those very few philosophers of the 20th century who revived the main questions of metaphysics. Although proposed traditional questions of metaphysics such as, unity, plurality, fixity, movement, time, and space, in giving his solutions, however, Whitehead remains faithful to no philosophical framework of his predecessor's views, like Aristotles.Whitehead's main challenge is that he wants to propose a new approach, according to the modern findings of mathematics and particularly modern physics, to the important traditional questions of metaphysics. He, then, organized his findings within his process world-view in the light of which he rephrased issues such as, unity, plurality, fixity, movement, time, and space.

In what follows, we have gone to analyze one of the matters of the discourse on the major and minor (macro and micro) collective identities and its relation to globalization. Having surveyed some classical views on sociology, post-modernist discourse, and those of later intellectuals, we have referred to the theoretical and methodological deficiencies of them. Our objective is to know how, via such an analysis, we can stay away from the one-sided and absolutist view of post-modernists and from researchers such as, Manuel Castells, and then to reach an integrative view which, we think, would better coincide with the realities of our modern world. Contrary to the mentioned approaches, we believe that globalization is the inevitable and real process, on the one hand, and human societies are moving toward some culturally and politically global paradigms as one shared identity, on the other hand. However, there, along with globalization, are being revived the minor and local identities. The finding of this article goes to affirm the above claim.
