Application of the traditional method(TM) in measuring the sectoral employment generation has some drawbacks. Therefore, the results could be misleading. To tackle the defects, Meller and Marfan proposed the Hypothetical Extraction Method (HEM). Like the TM, the HEM uses the intermediate transaction as a basis for measuring employment generation, which seems a necessary not sufficient condition. This paper confirms that necessary and sufficient conditions for policy-making and planning in sectoral employment require both real sectoral final demands and inter-sectoral intermediate transactions. To our knowledge, the HEM has been overlooked by the Iranian researchers. The Proposed Modified Method (PMM) satisfies both conditions. The updated 2011 Input-Output table has been used to operationalize TM, HEM and PMM under the following question: which method provides the real picture of the sectoral employment generation? Overall findings reveal that: a) in TM and HEM, agriculture sector is preferred to industry sector; b) in PMM, industry sector is more important than agriculture sector in terms of direct and indirect lost employment; c) when we use only indirect lost employment in identifying sectoral employment generation, industry, construction, wholesale and retail sectors get the first to third ranks, whereas agriculture sector appears in fourth rank

Economic complexity approach is based on this idea that commodities produced in an economy represent the level of productive knowledge required for making it. Assuming that countries do no produce any output unless they have knowledge and skill to produce it, this approach computes the accumulation of productive knowledge available in the national economies.
This article uses economic complexity approach to identify the level of productive knowledge in Iran’s economy. To this end, we use data on exports to countries included in Iran Vision 2025 during 2005 to 2014. We apply both ubiquity and diversification components in economic complexity index (ECI) in order to rank the region’s products and economies. The findings indicate that Israel and Turkey are of the high levels of complexity in the region under the study while Iran ranks 17th among 19 countries. Finally, Yemen and Turkmenistan rank 18th and 19th in the region.

This paper tries to investigate the effect of military spending on unemployment in selected developing countries during the period of 1995-2014. For this purpose, first, a model has been designed with the presence of fundamental variables affecting unemployment rate alongside the share of military spending from GDP variable. Then, using the panel co-integration tests the long-run equilibrium relationship between the model variables has been confirmed. Finally, the Panel Mean Group (PMG) approach has been used to measure the long-term and short-term relationships. The findings indicate the positive impact of the share of military spending from GDP on the unemployment rate and confirm the Abrams curve in the military sector. By contrast, the effect of the share of non-military spending from GDP on the unemployment rate is negative and rejects the Abrams curve in the civilian sector. Based on the other results, economic growth and inflation have negative effects on unemployment rate, which confirm the Okan's law and the Philips curve in the selected economies, respectively

The domestic researches have less paid attention to the impact of consumer behavior among age groups in the population of a country on energy consumption. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of behavior of three age groups in OPEC countries on per capita energy consumption over the period 1990-2014. These age groups range from 20 to 34, 35 to 64, and 65 to 79 years old. Estimations of the three experimental models using Panel ARDL method show that increases in the shares of these age groups lead to significant increases in energy consumption, so that the impact of age on energy consumption decreases with an increase in age and a decrease in share of active labor. Meanwhile, the highest and lowest influences are for the age group of 20 to 34 years and the 65 to 79 years, respectively. Also, GDP per capita has positive and significant effect on per capita energy consumption, but the effect of the global crude oil price on the per capita energy consumption is negative in the sample under study. In addition, the coefficients of error correction terms indicate that the deviation from long-term equilibrium for the age group of 20 to 34 years is -0.32. Hence, at the end of the third period any energy consumption disequilibrium returns to long-term equilibrium. The error correction in the second age group takes two periods and the deviation from the equilibrium in the third group disappears in less than a period

Stock price volatilities leading to firm's return volatilities are important concerns for capital and investment markets, because such volatilities determine the earnings from resource allocations. This paper examines the relationship between stock price concurrency and distribution of returns volatilities among companies listed in Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE). The statistical sample consists of 107 companies during 2011-2016. The findings show that there is no significant association between price concurrency and systematic stock return volatilities. In addition, there is no significant relationship between price concurrency and non-systematic stock return volatilities. In fact, changes in stock price are not necessarily in line with the market movements and volatilities in companie's returns cannot be influenced by each company's price concurrency relative to the market price changes.

Many experts believe that foreign direct investment (FDI) can provide substantial benefits to developing countries and help to speed up the economic development process. National accounts data also shows that FDI constitutes the considerable component of capital inflows to these countries. Thus, it is crucial to determine the drivers and determinants of inwards FDI flows to such countries. The conventional studies focus on market size and human capital factors as main determinants of FDI, however most of them neglect role played by corporate governance at a national level. This is mainly due to the lack of high quality data on corporate governance measures and indicators. The computation and provision of governance indicators by the World Bank (1999) has made rigorous studies connecting corporate governance to FDI possible. This paper uses the world governance indicators for 21 Southwest Asian countries to empirically test the relationship between macro-level corporate governance and inwards FDI during 2002-2014. Findings show that macroeconomic corporate governance has positive and significant effect on inwards FDI flows.
