The midnight of Ramezan in Nooshabad brings a ritual in the name of Horbaba, in which children are gone to the homes and pray for a child of the homeowner through hymn, and then receive gifts. The sample of this ritual is seen in many regions and provinces of Iran including Turkmen desert, Yazd, Kerman, Sistan, Bushehr, and Khuzestan. On the other side, a three-day joint celebration called Hirombā is held by Zoroastrians in which they collect firewood, set fire, read hymns with children and adolescents at the homes of residents, and then receive edible gifts. Hirombā has a significant similarity with Horbaba, in terms of the name, general structure, lyrics, content, and a blessing of children's focus. The fire which is common in the poem of Hirombā is also common in Horbaba. It seems that Horbaba's ritual, which is still held in many parts of Iran, is the remnant of the ancient Hirombā and Sadeh, and although it has become small and time-lapsed, it has been preserved through an Islamic structure. Researchers view Hirombā the same as Sadeh celebration. They associate the ritual with the sun and Yazata Rapithwin. This paper, based on the field studies and document analysis, aims to introduce Horbaba and its other examples in Iran and focus on its common elements with Zoroastrian Hirombā rituals and their mythical origins

Folk narratives play an influential role in shaping the identity of the female subject in society, so that the cultural values of the community, largely defined by the prevailing cultural discourse, are reflected through what Foucault calls the "regime of truth". This, in turn, defines the teachings of system of truth for the community through the folk narratives. This paper aims to, first, introduce two folk narratives of the Khorasan region called The Stone Woman and Zohreh: The Dumb Girl in a novel by Yasmin Crowther named The Saffron Kitchen. These two folk tales are written in English for the readers and represent the image of female subject echoed in Iranian folk narratives. This representation also echoes the dominant discourse, and patriarchal cultural hegemony in folk narratives. This investigation, then, examines how the social reflection of the creation of women identity can influence the identity of the female subject. Contemporary female writers have also put emphasize on challenging this hegemony and have constructed a new identity by generating a transnational cultural space. This study explores a novel of the Iranian diasporic literature, in which folk literature is reflected as a prelude to reflecting cultural hegemony, attempting to recall the role of folk literature in reflecting how traditional identity was formed and put forth the cultural "liminal space" for constructing a new female identity. The findings show that the female subject can be independently shaped, regardless of the supremacy of the cultural hegemony, and have a voice to be heard.

Horse is one of the most important themes in epic literature that has always been with the hero from the oldest era and even is sometimes unified with the heroes, and during the time it has taken many functions. In this essay, analyzing verse and prose epics and folklore based on the content analysis method, it became clear that sometimes the horse has a direct bond with water and fertility. In some texts, the horse is considered the symbol of wind, as it is evidently mentioned in Eskandarnameh. On the other hand, horse is sometimes a symbol of death, as the black horse of Aphosh, Shabrang Behzad, and the black horse of Esfandiar are linked to death. Sometimes the horse is unified with demon and fairy, as it is mentioned in the Hamzanameh, Firooz Shahnameh and Darabnameh Tarsosi. The horse of Tahmooreth in Shahnameh is also considered as the devil. Horse in some texts has such an important position for the hero that the selection of the horse is also one of the important stages of hero’s improvement, and sometimes even a horse and the horseman will unify as the hero cannot accomplish his mission without the horse, as Rakhsh and Sheborg Behzad in Shahnameh, and Ashghar, the horse of Boran-Dakht in Hamzanameh and Darabnameh Tarsosi are cases in point.

A significant part of Persian poetry is epic, and its domain has extended to the realm of folkloric literature. Local Jangname are poems with epical features that have been specifically written to imitate Shahnameh. These poems are in the form of masnavi, motaghareb and sometimes hazaj, describing exaggerated narratives, tales and heroic stories of persons or historical individuals from a geographical area. They are preserved for a long time in the area and could be used to resolve local and tribal conflicts. Depending on their subject matter, Jangname sometimes narrates the war between tribal leaders and the feudalists (khavanin) of the region, and at times narrates the war of a group with the central government, or the battle of a group of regional people with foreign forces. The element of war and the celebration or degradation of the local and regional characters and events are the basics of these poems. The works focused in this study are Jangname of Raeesi Delavari, Jangname of Hayat Daboud and Nightshift, and Jangname of on the light of Liravi which are studied stylistically and typologically. These poems influenced by the linguistic and literary style of the Shahnameh and other epic texts, as well as their tone and dialogue, have substantial differences with the epic genre; there is no indication of aspects such as myth, fiction, heroism, national spirit, and defamiliarization in these poems. They suggest no national spirit, because their heroes often seek to achieve their personal goals and objectives. It is concluded that these poems should be called ‘quasi-epic’.

Psychoanalysts and psychologists of different schools have analyzed fairy tales for psychoanalytic purposes. Bruno Bettelheim, a Freudian thinker, seeks to show how fairy tales, using imaginary faces, shape the process of healthy human development and make the process of development interesting and acceptable for the child. The Limped Deer tale helps children figuratively to learn how to manage the two conflicting feelings of love and hatred toward their parents and to preserve the image of the loving parents. In the story, when children leave home, it means that self-care and individualism require leaving home. Running away from the demon is a symbol of the child's conceptualization of the dangers of adolescence as imaginatively disturbing creatures. Siblings are symbols of the need to assimilate conflicting human and animal tendencies within themselves to achieve real development. The whale swallowing the sister represents an unreal death to reach a higher existence. "Replacement", "adjustment and modernization of deep psychological conflicts", "individuality and identity independence", "psychological extraversion", "personality integration", "mental, psychological and social order", "the cultivation of the imagination" are all the most important functions which are extracted from the Limped Deer. Therefore, it is concluded that fairy tales can address the fundamental problems of the child's maturity process figuratively and resolve them in an imaginative and indirect way.

The epic threnodies or šowxins are popular poems that are composed by unknown poets after the death of one of the heroes or elders of the Lori tribe in the fight against the ruling regime, and have long been read by the people and singers of Lori poems. Bakhtiari and Boyerahmadi tribes have many racial, linguistic, cultural and historical affinities, and threnodies have a high place among them; therefore, in this paper, in order to study the various dimensions of these poems and to find out the phenomenon of the transmission of popular poems, they are compared according to the method of content analysis (comparative approach). It is briefly stated that Bakhtiari and Boyerahmadi threnodies have the same and common elements of epic poetry (heroic, national, ethnic, and narrative forms), themes, verses and hemistiches, description, and literary characteristics, but the language of Boyerahmadi threnodies is rougher than that of Bakhtiari's and it has a kind of controversy with the unexampled creator. In this paper, the most important linguistic, literary, cultural and historical values of these threnodies are discussed. Also, the analysis can be regarded as a model for study of this kind of popular poetry in different parts of Iran.

Oaths of fire, fire stoves, blades of sun, running water, bread, nuns, temples, devotees, underworlds, and thugs are the most important examples of swearing among the people of Bakhtiari. The importance of taking an oath to this people is the last way to prove the truth of the word and to distinguish the righteous from the wrongdoer. In this study, while studying the types of oaths in Bakhtiari people, the literary characters and their mythological aspects are investigated as well. This research is fundamentally based on the field-based library study and qualitative content analysis. After examining various sources and analyzing the literary and mythological aspects of swearing among the Bakhtiari people, it can be said that the ritual is a remnant of the same ritual in ancient Iran. The poems and rituals of the oral Ashura in various geographical areas illustrate the dominant manner of literary creation and the general streams of thought and religion. An examination of these poems illustrates the historical course of the Ashura oral literature among the people of one area. Accordingly, in the present study, we attempt to introduce the ritual poems of "Tea", "Ashouri", and "Friends of Worship" in the folk ritual literature of Damghan using an anthropological approach. The issue of Ashura rituals puts them in the broader areas of oral religious literature that have a direct relationship with popular religious rituals. The analysis was carried out on structural and content sections, introducing and focusing on the symbolic functions in the content section. In the structural part, the dominant theme of these poems is the emphasis on rhythm, rhyme, row, and inner music. The method of the study is qualitative and the means of data collection is in-depth interviews with experts on related poems.

Persian poetry has been a vehicle for reflecting plays and theatrical games, a source if absent might reduce the quality of performative arts. Accordingly, this study attempts to show which themes and features of the plays have been most prominent in the Persian poetry, and in this interplay, what the poetry has gained from the play, and which themes and images are taken from the world of play. The research method is descriptive-analytical based on the library study and document analysis. Two programs called Erfan e Noor and Darj have also been used. This study shows that the Persian poetry has retained some of the features of the play, and more attention has been paid to two games called acrobatics and puppet shows. Reflecting the themes of the play, the poets have paid more attention to theme creation and their poetic imagination, and the imagination based on the play has a significant role in this regard. The earliest Persian poets of Dari as well as the contemporary poets have reflected theatrical themes in their poems; from Ferdowsi and Manouchehri to Qa’aani and Farahani. Among them, Nizami Ganjavi has paid more attention to this aspect than the others. Also, for the first time in this study, the mystic attitude towards the plays has been examined; it has been realized that they have often used the allegorical form of the plays. The mystic allegories are rather codified. They are similar to Khayam's philosophical allegories. In terms of literary analysis, most images are created by metaphor, simile, allegory, and coded allegory.

One of the stories about the myth of Mithra is her war with the god of sun on the birthday. On the other hand, one of the most questionable stories in Bible is the wrestling of Yaghoub with Elohim, the style, theme and features of which attributed to God does not certainly belong to the Old Testament. But so far as the elements of narrative are concerned, it is similar to the narrative suggested by Mehr religion.  According to the similar fiction in the Mithra religion, this article suggested that the wrestling with the goddess has moved from oral fiction of Mithra religion to Judaism. We considered the historical study of cultural contact that seems to have started from the era of Huris rule and Nuz civilization. In addition, some common elements like night, water, the sun and the morning are also reviewed. The most important mythological element of this narrative is to grant Farrah (blessing); however, the difference is that in the genesis, Elohim grants the blessing to Yaghoub, while in Mithra, the Mehr grants the light beams and the rule of the heavens to the sun. This difference is due to the transfer of one mythic element from a non-monotheistic religion to a monotheistic one.
