Speed as a crucial phenomenon of modernism affects individual and collective life of human being and changes the traits of the places people live in. Increasing speed is the demand of the modern era, though on the other side in recent years there is a contrary incline towards slowing down different aspects of life. In view of this, the dualities in between social features of Speed up and slow down in current era is investigated in this paper and the interconnection of social and urban aspects is studied. This is obtained by analyzing the basic elements of speed included the space and time; two main modes of travel comprised of transportation and telecommunication; and the correlation between social and urban structure. Accordingly a paradoxical implication is derived from the factors relied on speed and slowness. Such standpoint is overviewed in a "balanced notion" in such a way that the positive sides of speed are accepted and the negative features ignored. Such analysis indicates the use of accelerated and creative technologies in a sustainable manner, as a result more time is saved in comparison to pre-modern eras and could be spent on different real and virtual activities. The balanced notion is regarded some regulations, educations, or policies to convince people to control over speed, do specified amount of essential activities per day and devote the rest time on social interactions in urban public spaces.

Interdisciplinary subjects have always had a remarkable contribution in developing urban design concepts and theories. Among these contexts, cinema as a medium which broadcasts features of our cities and urban environments can have a significant role, but this instructional field is neglected among Iranian scholars. Thus, to fulfill this gap, it is essential to clarify the interrelations of cities and cinema in Iran. Iranian cinema, particularly after the revolution, received so many international awards in festivals. These prominent works have various urban sequences that can be a valuable source for urban designers and city policymakers. Consequently, the civic movies from these impressive works are selected and studied by the use of qualitative methods and content analysis. These analyses have been conducted in two distinctive sections. First, the repetition of cities, Urbanscape, and city aspects which were implied by Kevin Lynch had been inspected. Second, the role of cities and urbanscapes analyzed by the adoption of Carmona's dimensions. This paper indicates that Tehran has had the most presence in the movies, while few films have been captured in some coastal cities and some pictured in places with a special traditional architecture such as Bandar Lengeh. Within the city aspects, paths and districts have the most repetition while landmarks and nodes have the least depiction. It is conceded that the portrayed physical attributes of cities can be categorized into three parts which cover old and traditional environments, new and modern environments and outskirt suburban areas. Furthermore, from the social-perceptual point of view, Tehran because of its urban and civic issues is generally related with disorders and negative meanings, while other cities because of their nostalgic and traditional urban style are more respected within the society. According to the researches, urban facades and visual aspects in Tehran are usually not acceptable, while coastal environments and traditional designs sound more appropriate. As mentioned, the captured environments of Iranian cities are narrowed to some particular areas, which expresses the insufficient number of picturesque settings in urban environments. Therefore, this study can also perform as a tool for evaluating the enrichment of Iranian urban spaces.

Viewing urban areas as webs of complex, interwoven networks, this article aims to analyze the decision-making process and its outcomes in Tehran metropolitan region. To do so, first the theoretical basis of complexity in urban life and its implications for planning have been reviewed. Using the main notion of power of action i.e. agency, and through creating the network of actors and their relations as defined by the planning system, a qualitative assessment has been carried out. Findings suggest that the concluded decision-making trends and their corresponding planning interventions are feeding the power conflicts between actors and have mainly turned the inherent capacity of self-organization to solve problems into a rather harmful occurrence through processes of exclusion, the most prominent of which are: partial involvement of the actors of the network and a disregard for their interactions, silo mentality and sectoral and fragmented decision making. All of this point out to the necessity of a move towards a form of decision making that is more facilitating, inclusive, fluid and bottom-up in every aspect.

Tourism is a progressively major part of economies of urban areas. Urban regeneration as a subcategory of urban tourism has been the center of many urban projects. This study addresses the role of space syntax theory as an analytical tool and design aided tool in urban regeneration. For this purpose, we examined the development of a square in the Kuala Lumpur City Center (KLCC) using space syntax method. Surrounding streets network one time with existed situation and another time with adding proposed square were analyzed by Depthmap software and were compared. Numerical analysis showed a significant increase of integration of the most number of streets. Based on the connection of integration and other concepts of space syntax in accessibility and people flow the proposed square can be a major contribution to accessibility problems of tourists in KLCC. It can be seen that the synergy of the streets that link Jalan Ampang is increased; moreover, intelligibility and accessibly may well be improved in this area by the suggested square. The behavior of tourists and local people based on wayfinding can be developed by new spatial configurations.

The human life style in community spaces and deficiency in the number of appropriate spaces for the presence and gathering of people, indicates the need to creat necessary infrastructure in order to reconcile people with public realms. This is a key requirement for the continuance of human social life and improvement of their social culture. Public (community) spaces are places that belong to all the citizens and acquire meaning only with presence of people and their activities. Therefore, creating different capacities such as liveliness and its improvement - as one of the key factors in this area - is necessary  to make human presence more possible. The principle issue in this paper is to desig a suitable lively place for improving the level of ideal social interactions with the help of  liveliness factors. For this purpose, we will analyze and categorize effective factors in the improvement of liveliness in spaces such as variety¸ memorability¸ flexibility¸ readability, while presenting the views of professionals and experts of this field. This paper is carried out with the help of survey research method and the use of questionnaires. Also, liveliness factors have been evaluated by experts and professionals in two categories; physical and mental factors of public spaces. The result of this paper shows that the effect of mental factors on people's presence and liveliness of the public space are highly significant than the physical factors; Focusing on components such as liveliness in design, identifying and providing cultural and social needs of users, and considering these factors in the design of the complex, shows a meaningful connection with enhancement in the acceptance of these public spaces and of people's presence in them. This is due to the fact that joy and vitality of a space encourages the reappearance of people, and this creates hope in life and can have a positive effect on their personality development in this environment.

The issues of loss of quality of life and functional disruption of the river valleys are very important. In the present settlement system, the river valleys should not be places for reproducing poverty. To link the environmental values with urban development, the research is to answer the following question: How can the results of the integrated development of urban valleys be achieved via urban planning? In this study, river valleys, as the case study, were divided into four zones. Then, using the VIKOR method, these zones were ranked. After that, according to the relevant index, it was confirmed that the approaches adopted in the context of the reconstruction and organization of river valleys have failed to create a stable place. Sustainable urban regeneration, comprehensive and preventive approach and action for resolving urban problems of the target area of operations, and components of an integrated conservative development approach is replaced by some purely developmental and stereotypical measures. The conceptual model of sustainable urban regeneration resulting from the theoretical and responding questions to the research question as a step forward with the goal of optimal management and policy making in the valleys are explained and suggested to enhance the quality of these sensitive areas as the natural and exclusive wealth of cities such as Tehran Metropolis.
