The antiquity of the lullabies of the nations is unidentified, but undoubtedly lullabies have been transferred from the earliest literary constructs to oral creations. In the lower layers of these folklore poems, there are hidden facts that require deep thought to be understood. This study investigates Persian and English lullabies from the ideational metafunction point of view. Given the assumption that events are reflected in language, we believe this research can provide a comparative analysis of the discourse of the afore-mentioned lullabies’ texts. The findings indicate similarities in the use of physical, verbal, and mental processes in lullabies of the two countries. Accordingly, women's social roles, their levels of activism and responsiveness, and a measure of positive and negative expectations were extracted from the texts of the lullabies.

This paper examines the role of translation as a system in Iran’s constitutional literary movement, in the light of the polysystem theory proposed by Even-Zohar. It is discussed that the translated texts, mostly, the narrative fiction shaped a systematic form, through the establishment of Dar at-tarjome (translation bureau) in the Nasser ad-Din Shah period. Therefore, new patterns, norms, and writing styles emerged, to which the Persian literary system had been unaccustomed. Chiefly, the translation of historical works resulted in two considerable achievements. First, some selected translated works were introduced into the literary repertoire of the Persian culture as if they had been written originally in Persian. Second, it stimulated the creation of the Persian works in the same manner as the translated texts. This paper seeks to indicate how the translated literature, as a secondary repertoire, gradually moved from the peripheral and marginal position to the nuclear and central place of the Persian literary polysystem. The in crisis society of Iran had to respond to the novel cultural demands after the Constitutional Revolution and consequently accepted new literary types including translated literature. Thus, the books such as The story of Haji Baba Isfahani, translated by Mirza Habib, attracted attention and moved from the position of the translated works to the central position of the Persian literary polysystem, along with the authentic literary works.

Kalidas, an Indian poet and dramatist who lived around 1500 years ago, describes the various states of love in a five-act dialogue-based drama called Vikram Urvashi. The theme of the drama is adapted from the ancient sources of Sanskrit literature, and its heroes are the mythical and fairy gods. The events in the story of Vikram Urvashi are carefully arranged by the play writer. They appear quite natural on the basis of a cause and effect structure. The main theme and content of the play are similar to that of several Greek myths such as Demeter and Persephone, Cupid and Psyche, and Prometheus. The similarities indicate the myths of the world share common themes. It also shows the cultural trades, wars, commerce, etc. contribute to the fusion of the myths of the nations.

Ruslan and Ludmila is an epic-romantic poem, written by Russia’s prominent poet, Alexander Pushkin. This poem brought Pushkin fame, as it was inspired by Russian folklore fairy tales and revealed his impeccable ability to combine a serious theme with humor. His writing style was remarkably different from the eighteenth-century Russian literature. This narrative poem has not been completely translated into Persian so far; however, there are some occasional references to its general ideas and events in Persian sources. Therefore, Persian readers find it hard to trace the genealogy of the poem. Some scholars believe it is inspired by Shahnameh or One Thousand and One Nights. This study aims to challenge these patriotic but unscientific approaches towards Pushkin’s masterpiece. The research proposed two questions: is Ruslan and Ludmila rooted in Eastern literary trends? If yes, to which (Persian or Arabic) story is it related? To answer the aforesaid questions, a comparative-analytic study was carried out on this narrative poem and four Persian romantic poems (Bahram o Golandam, Jamshid o Khorshid, Gol o Norouz, and Sam o Paridokht). The paper provides the similarities between these poems have to be justified by the literary essence of the fairytale genre and does not indicate their influence on each other.

The subject of literary schools and their impact on the writers of various nations is one of the domains of comparative literature. The study of the concept of determinism as the pillar of naturalism in L'Assommoir by Emil Zola, as well as The Past Time of Old men by Mahmoud Dowlatabadi, can be an appropriate case for comparative study. Studies indicate that Zola, the founder of the school of Naturalism in France, based on the deterministic view, depicts L'Assommoir characters in the context of genetic determinism and environmental determinism. Under the influence of the naturalistic determinism philosophy, Dowlatabadi considers the destiny of the characters of The Past Time of Old men under the control of genetic determinism and environmental determinism, as well as a third type of determinism that can be called “indeterminism”. Therefore, it can be concluded that Dowlatabadi, with a different view based on Iran's cultural and social circumstances, portrayed a new type of naturalism in fictional literature.

Jamshid, the son of Tahmuras in Shahnameh, is the most glorious king in the Iranian national narratives during whose era the major events happened for shaping the civilization of Iran. The stories and narratives about Jamshid myth (such as the construction of Var-e Jamkard, passing the myth of the storm, the healing power, rebirth as the god of the land of the dead, ascending to the sky, and communicating with the sun) have similarities to the stories and narratives of other nations. This paper, after reviewing the Indo-Iranian myth of Jamshid, narrates some similar narratives of other nations and their effect on each other. The result is that, in many cases, the myth of Jamshid has been a model for myths in other ancient civilizations, and in some cases, common human ideals or archetypes led to the creation of similar heroes.
