    Context

    Lifestyle modifications consist of three components including diet, exercise, and cognitive-behavioral therapy which can reduce side effects of breast cancer. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is a complementary strategy that promotes new skills for any treatment. Published trials have investigated the co-efficacies of the two or three components of lifestyle modifications, especially dietary and cognitive-behavioral interventions in breast cancer survivors.

    Evidence Acquisition

    This protocol is about a meta-analysis which will systematically report the simultaneous effects of dietary intervention or physical activity with cognitive-behavioral therapy, or three of them on quality of life, the recurrence levels and anthropometric measurements among patients with breast cancer and survivors. It was prepared in accordance with the PRISMAP checklist and will be performed in accordance with the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic reviews of intervention. Cochrane Central Register of Controlled trials, PubMed, EMBASE and ISI web of science will be searched for peer-reviewed literature using defined MeSH terms. Included randomized controlled trials on the combination effects of cognitive-behavioral therapy with either dietary or physical interventions will be assessed. Continuous data will bemeta-analyzed using the STATA and will be gathered using random-effects models. The effect size will be reported as standardized mean difference with 95%CIs. Heterogeneity assessment, publication bias, and sensitivity analysis will be performed. The heterogeneity between some trials may be a limitation of this study.

    Conclusions

    This meta-analysis will provide beneficial guidance for healthcare providers and family members to improve the current understanding of the role of lifestyle modification on alleviating the important problems of patients with breast cancer

    Background

    Acute graft versus host disease (aGVHD) is a common complication following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) caused by cellular and inflammatory factors, including those arising from monocytes and dendritic cells as integral parts of the immune system. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA) have recently emerged as potential regulators of the immune responses and it is supported that their dysregulation can develop various immune disorders. As an intergenic lncRNA, the lncDC was shown to regulate the human monocytes differentiation and antigen presenting cells (APCs) activation during immune responses. It is also shown that lnc-DC knockdown reduces T-cell activation and cytokine release.

    Objectives

    The aim of this study was to assess whether the lnc-DC plays a role in patients with aGVHD by measuring its expression levels compared to non-aGVHD patients on specific time intervals following transplantation.

    Methods

    Participants included 38 patients who underwent primary allogeneic bone marrow transplantation. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were isolated by Ficoll-Hypaque gradient from the blood samples collected at days 0, 7, 14, 28, and final day of transplantation. The qRT-PCR was used to quantify the lnc-DC levels.

    Results

    Findings revealed a significant increase in the lnc-DC levels on day 28 and the final day after transplantation in patients with aGVHD compared to non-GVHD patients (CI = 95%, P < 0.03 on day 28 and P < 0.01 on the final day). Furthermore, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis showed an acceptable total area under the curve for the lnc-DC gene expression data, suggesting a fair diagnostic value for lnc-DC.

    Conclusions

    Taken together, data of the present study supported a strong correlation between lncRNA-DC expression and aGVHD occurrence. As a result, lnc-DC may be considered as a new molecular marker for the aGVHD prognosis.

    Background

    Digital image analysis (DIA), used to extract information from pathology slides, provides better precision and no limitation regarding different interpretations by observers.

    Objectives

    The present study aimed at evaluating the accuracy of DIA in the interpretation of borderline (2+) human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) immunohistochemistry (IHC) slides of invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast.

    Methods

    Sixty pathology samples with invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast were extracted based on HER2 (2+) and their fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and chromogenic in situ hybridization (CISH) responses (as reference standard). The slides were digitized and, then, two pathologists examined the slides and documented diagnosis. DIA was performed by a free web application.

    Results

    Totally, 307 digital images with 298 megabytes volume were extracted. The accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity values of DIA were 86 %, 46.1 %, and 97.8 %, respectively, with 8 false-negative cases. There was moderate agreement between the pathologist 1 (kappa = 0.42) and pathologist 2 (kappa = 0.41) with DIA.

    Conclusions

    DIA had good accuracy and could be used for the interpretation of borderline HER2 IHC method in invasive ductal carcinoma.

    Background

    The use of oncolytic viruses as therapeutic agents is a promising treatment for various human cancers. Several viruses have been extensively examined to achieve tumor cell death.

    Objectives

    This study aimed at evaluating the natural oncolytic activity of mumps Hoshino vaccine strain against two human cancer cell lines, that is, HT1080 fibrosarcoma and HeLa cervical adenocarcinoma cell lines.

    Methods

    The cytolytic activity of the virus was evaluated using an MTT assay. Apoptosis was detected by Annexin-V/propidium iodide (PI) staining and analyzed via flow cytometry. To indicate viral replication in vivo, nude mice with HeLa heterografts were treated with the Hoshino strain of mumps virus.

    Results

    It was found that human fibrosarcoma and cervical cells were more sensitive to the mumps Hoshino strain, even at a very low multiplicity of infection (MOI) compared to normal human diploid cells. The results also showed that the Hoshino strain induced apoptosis in both cancer cells. A preliminary in vivo study revealed the significant suppression of tumor growth in the group treated with the mumps Hoshino strain compared to the control group.

    Conclusions

    The Hoshino vaccine strain of mumps virus showed promising oncolytic activities against human fibrosarcoma and cervical adenocarcinoma cells.

    Background

    In this study, computed tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (CT/MRI) image registration and fusion in the 3D conformal radiotherapy treatment planning of Glioblastoma brain tumor was investigated. Good CT/MRI image registration and fusion made a great impact on dose calculation and treatment planning accuracy. Indeed, the uncertainly associated with the registration and fusion methods must be well verified and communicated. Unfortunately, there is no standard procedure or mathematical formalism to perform this verification due to noise, distortion, and complicated anatomical situations.

    Objectives

    This study aimed at assessing the effective contribution of MRI in Glioma radiotherapy treatment by improving the localization of target volumes and organs at risk (OARs). It is also a question to provide clinicians with some suitable metrics to evaluate the CT/MRI image registration and fusion results.

    Methods

    Quantitative image registration and fusion evaluation were used in this study to compare Eclipse TPS tools and Elastix CT/MRI image registration fusion. Thus, Dice score coefficient (DSC), Jaccard similarity coefficient (JSC), and Hausdorff distance (HD) were found to be suitable metrics for the evaluation and comparison of the image registration and fusion methods of Eclipse TPS and Elastix.

    Results

    The programmed tumor’s volumes (PTV) delineated on CT slices were approximately 1.38 times smaller than those delineated on CT/MRI fused images. Large differences were observed for the edema and the brainstem. It was also found that MRI considerably optimized the dose to be delivered to the optic nerve and brainstem.

    Conclusions

    Image registration and fusion is a fundamental step for suitable and efficient Glioma treatment planning in 3D conformal radiotherapy that ensure accurate dose delivery and unnecessary OAR irradiation. MRI can provide accurate localization of targeted volumes leading to better irradiation control of Glioma tumor.

    Background

    Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among Iranian women. The early diagnosis of this disease can decrease the mortality rate and promote patient survival.

    Objectives

    This study aimed at identifying the barriers to early detection of breast cancer in Iranian women.

    Methods

    In this qualitative study, which was extracted from a large research project, an exploratory sequential mixed-methods design was used, and conventional content analysis was carried out. Twenty-one participants were selected by purposeful sampling (ten health professionals and 11 female patients with breast cancer). Data were collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews from July 2018 to June 2019.

    Results

    The content analysis revealed three major themes related to delay in presentation: individual barriers (limited/lack of knowledge, other life preferences, negative reactions to the disease, and belief in fate), environmental barriers (insufficient social support, inaccurate information sources, and alternative therapy recommendations), and organizational barriers (poor quality of health services, inadequate access to health services, and role of media in informing people).

    Conclusions

    Various perceived barriers, at different levels, play influential roles in the patients’ early detection. Therefore, collaboration between public health professionals, healthcare providers, and policymakers seems necessary for reducing delays in presentation among women.

    Background

    Teleoncology refers to the use of telemedicine for remotely providing multiple specialized services in clinical oncology processes, including screening, diagnosis, treatment planning, consultation, supportive care, pathology, surgery, and follow-up services.

    Objectives

    The aim of this study was to identify the required data elements and elicitation of requirements for developing a telemedicine system that aims at providing treatment plans for patients with breast cancer.

    Methods

    In this study, the required data elements for the teleoncology system were identified through both the investigation of clinical guidelines and review of patients’ medical records. Identified data elements were determined by breast cancer specialists through the questionnaire. Besides, an interview method was applied to elicit the requirements of this system.

    Results

    The identified data elements were categorized into 20 groups (e.g., clinical data, breast physical examinations, pathological results, tests, imaging results, etc.). From the 182 data elements included within the questionnaire, 125 were recognized to be necessary (n = 32, 100%). The lowest mean percentage were observed in magnesium blood test (Mg) (n = 21, 65.63%) and protein test (Pr) (n = 21, 65.63%). Other data elements with a minimum mean of 71.87% and a maximum mean of 100% were recognized necessary. In general, 2 major themes, 9 categories, and 45 related sub-categories were extracted from analyzing the findings of the interviews related to the system requirements.

    Conclusions

    The findings of the present study can be used as a basis for developing teleoncology systems that aim at providing treatment plans for patients with breast cancer.

    Introduction

    Choriocarcinoma is a rare neoplasm, which is commonly treated with chemotherapy. However, in some cases, it is managed by surgical intervention to save the patient’s life. Here, we present a rare case of uterine rupture associated with choriocarcinoma in a patient with COVID-19 infection.

    Case Presentation

    We present the case of a 34-year-old woman with choriocarcinoma, complicated by uterine rupture after the first course of chemotherapy, and concurrent COVID-19 infection. The patient underwent an emergency hysterectomy and survived after transferring to an isolated intensive care unit room.

    Conclusions

    During the COVID-19 pandemic, it is suggested to perform optimal surgery in the emergency setting to prevent further complications.
