    Background and Purpose:

The causes of many diseases may lie in interaction with nature, lifestyle, and eating habits. Thus, by identifying diseases in kings and rulers, one can become largely acquainted with their lifestyle. Polydipsia is largely related to lifestyle and particularly improper eating habits. The present study raises the question of what factors caused the kings and rulers to suffer from Polydipsia, in addition to overeating and improper eating habits. Therefore, more data were collected to answer this question based on historical citations.

    Materials and Methods

The present interdisciplinary (medical/historical) study is library research that employed a descriptive-analytical method. Further samples were collected using Noor software, a valid Comprehensive Library of Traditional Medicine, and also the Library of Islamic Iran and Nour al-Sirah. These three databases made it possible to search several thousand titles of medical and historical books and treatises.

    Results

In addition to overeating, factors such as excessive use of alcohol and drugs, and sometimes the excruciating suffering from wars were found in historical accounts that caused many kings, rulers, and warlords to suffer from Polydipsia.

    Conclusion

Although kings and rulers often suffered from Polydipsia because of overeating, excessive use of alcohol and drugs, and even the excruciating suffering from wars, this disease was not merely limited to the upper classes and the mentioned factors; ordinary people and even physicians and scientists suffered from Polydipsia due to congenital causes.

    Background and Purpose:

In Persian Medicine (PM) sources, sleep is one of the important priorities for maintaining health and treating diseases. From the perspective of modern medicine, any disturbance in the circadian rhythm will alter natural fluctuations of the endocrine system. This study deals with the characteristics of a good sleep and its effects on the prevention of diseases from the perspective of PM and Modern Medicine.

    Materials and Methods

This research is a review study, in which authoritative PM books also taught in PM schools (such as The Canon of Medicine) and also electronic databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, SID and Noor software have been searched.

    Results

Sleep is one of the six important principles of maintaining health from the perspective of PM. In the sources of this school, the most detailed principles of suitable sleep for different individuals are discussed. For example, children need more sleep than young adults, and women more than men. Additionally, there is more need for sleep in summer than in winter. PM also discusses the effects of poor and bad sleep. Valuable studies have been conducted in the world that have expressed the relationship between sleep problems with various physical and mental diseases such as high blood pressure, kidney problems, anxiety, depression and even infertility.

    Conclusion

By studying new medical achievements in the field of sleep as well as information from PM resources, a very close and strong relationship can be found between these two perspectives. Both schools pay special attention to sleep timing. Moreover, both recognize the difference in amount of sleep needed based on individual differences, and believe in the effect of sleep on improvement of physical and psychological recovery of human being. However, in some cases, such as the characteristics of proper sleep, PM discusses much more details.

    Background and Purpose:

Death and its associated challenges are one of today's most contentious topics. Numerous philosophical and medical studies have been conducted on this subject. This research aims to explore death from Mulla Sadra's standpoint and medical science's perspective (traditional and modern).

    Materials and Methods

The research approach is comparative, and a comparison between Mulla Sadra and medical viewpoints in this subject is conducted by consulting library materials and understanding the nature of death.

    Results

Medical science bases its explanations of death on bodily symptoms (acceptance cause). Modern medicine defines death as "the cessation of breathing", "the cessation of the heart" and "the cessation of blood flow throughout the body". Death is defined in traditional medicine as loss of innate heat. It articulates the acceptance cause of death in Mulla Sadra's philosophy; it does not explain the reality nor the necessity of death. According to his theory of natural death, the human soul attains completion by substantive movement, and when it attains its appropriate perfection via the body, it departs and death occurs. Thus, in Mulla Sadra's opinion, natural death is the outcome of self-perfection. It is a metaphysical solution to the issue of death and a genuine justification for its necessity.

    Conclusion

Mulla Sadra's discussion of death is meta-empirical in that he uses logic to give a novel interpretation of human mortality. The reality and necessity of death become evident in this sense, but the medical science approach is based on experience and presenting the most likely cause of death, never explaining the necessity of death. As a result, the two do not share the same viewpoint when it comes to death.

    Background and Purpose:

Konnash fi al-Tibb, a medical work by Jirdjis ibn Bukhtishu, was written in the second century AH in Syriac. Hunayn ibn Ishaq, a famous third-century Christian physician and translator, translated the book from Syriac into Arabic. An anonymous author wrote a commentary on Chaharbukht's commentary, the only surviving copy of the first volume, which is kept in the Astan Quds Library and was written in the eighth century AH. Of the first three works, no copy is known to exist in the world to date. One of the purposes of this study is to explain the method to access the text of those works and their reconstruction through the lens of this version. This study also aims to introduce this manuscript and highlight its importance.

    Materials and Methods

This study was conducted using text analysis method and with a prescriptive approach.

    Results

Four works from four different generations of Iranian physicians are collected in this small edition; The presence of Syriac and Greek words in the text of the book and mentions of some physicians about whom no information is available comprise the distinctive features of this work.

    Conclusion

Part of the importance of this work is related to the author, translator and interpreter and another is related to its antiquity. In general, it belongs to the Khouzi Persian school and is slightly different from other medical works as they belong to the Galen school. This work has made possible reconstruction of 6682 words from Hunayn's translation and 18408 words from Chaharbukht commentary book, of which there were no traces before.
