In this paper, a three DOF (Degree Of Freedom) aerial target tracking pedestal that covers the entirety of the 3D threat space is introduced. The conventional two DOF tracking pedestals cannot track some trajectories due to having singular points in their workspace. The extra DOF in a three DOF tracking pedestal overcomes this problem. Moreover, the redundant DOF reduces the needed joint velocity and acceleration in the tracking process and makes the whole structure more maneuverable. The challenging matter in utilizing such a redundant pedestal is that the Inverse Kinematic Problem (IKP) has infinite sets of solutions. An analytical solution is proposed to handle this problem which results in a single set of solutions. Furthermore, the dynamic model of the pedestal is derived using the Euler-Lagrange method, and the verification is performed using mechanical design software. Finally, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed pedestal in tracking aerial targets with unknown trajectories, a PID controller and an LQR controller are utilized in simulations. The results yield that tracking any complex trajectory is attainable using conventional controllers.

A fault tolerant control is designed for a four-legged bird. This control consists of two parts: status control and position control. Position control is performed by a fuzzy controller and position control is performed by a PD controller. In the next step, the parity space method is implemented in order to diagnose and estimate the defect. In addition to finding the analytical relationship of the defect, in this article, position control will also be performed. Operator saturation and its effects on system performance is another issue not seen in reviewed articles. In this paper, operator saturation is considered and consequently the maximum fault tolerable by the system will be estimated. Using fault signals, control redesign operations have been performed to tolerate faults and correct control inputs; So using the PID controller, the annoying outputs created by the fault are zeroed. The defect is assumed to be of the operative type and two scenarios have been assumed for its occurrence.

This paper investigates an optimal adaptive controller based on reinforcement learning while considering orbital perturbations. The controller can achieve mission goals, online without any model. Reconfiguration capabilities provide great flexibility in achieving formation flying mission goals. In reconfiguration, it is desired that spacecrafts migrate from the current formation to a new formation, thus achieving mission goals. Orbital perturbations, difficulties in extracting exact mathematical models, and unknown system dynamics make the optimal reconfiguration problem challenging. Due to the digital nature of spacecraft computer systems, controllers have to be implemented digitally. Accordingly, this paper introduces an adaptive optimal digital controller for a discounted generalized cost function. The stability of the proposed controller is proven by the Lyapunov method. Then, using the Q-learning method, an algorithm is presented so that the controller can find the optimal control gains in a model-free fashion. Finally, numerical simulations of a formation flying mission scenario, confirm the effectiveness of this method.

This study presents the conceptual design of an unmanned multirotor with a novel configuration whose main application is disaster management. This multirotor can carry 800 kg of cargo for a range of 400 km, and its forward flight speed is 100 km/h. A multirotor with the specified performance parameters has not yet been developed. Due to the stipulated performance, the electric propulsion system is inapplicable, and a hybrid propulsion system is considered for this multirotor. The hybrid propulsion system without energy conversion was selected for the proposed design after further investigating alternative hybridization approaches. Multirotor subsystems are conceptually designed based on take-off weight, i.e., take-off weight is first estimated, and then multirotor subsystems are designed based on it. Finally, the overall subsystems’ weight is compared to the predicted take-off weight. If there is a significant discrepancy, the procedure is repeated until the two values converge. This paper presents the last design loop, and the specifications of the electric propulsion system, fuel propulsion system, power transmission system, body structure, and skid are calculated.

Organized Design for PDU Convertors of Nano-satellite via a Closed-Loop AlgorithmAbstractPower subsystem of nano-satellites is a major part that effectively has relationships with their entire electrical components. Occurring defects in this subsystem may lead to missing the whole nano-satellite mission. On the other hand, due to nano-satellites restrictions in space condition and energy consumption, designing an optimized and appropriate power system will be more significant. In order to design convertors for power distribution units (PDUs) a closed-loop algorithm is presented in this paper, employing a proper combination of extant analytic relations, analyzing and simulating in software interface and testing the experimental setup. Applying this algorithm reduces number of the required experimental samples in the process of manufacturing and testing. The proposed algorithm is carried out to design and build on engineering sample of PDU for nanosatellite and the results reveals the performance of this algorithm.KeywordsDesigning algorithm, closed-loop design, Buck convertor, nanosatellite, power distribution Unit (PDU)

Near-Earth Asteroids are attractive targets in terms of the mineral resources they can provide us and the fast technological development and growing human needs for rare metals and minerals. In this paper, Ryugu, Itokawa, and Bennu asteroids are selected from near-Earth asteroids due to their proper distance from Earth to design the optimal round-trip trajectory. Multi-objective optimization along with the ephemeris of these asteroids is used to design outbound and inbound trajectories. The objective functions include the total delta-velocity and the total duration of the mission, these variables are minimized with the help of the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm for the trajectories between the Earth and the sample asteroids. In the following, the results are presented in the form of Pareto diagrams. which indicates the suitability of the conditions of Bennu asteroid compared to other sample asteroids. To validate these results, the Pareto diagram answers that had the least delta-velocity were compared with their counterparts from the available information on the NASA JPL data center.

The main challenge of the star sensor as a real-time sensor is the execution time of attitude determination. Attitude determination using the star sensor includes five main steps: star catalog and identification algorithm selection, database construction, image processing, star identification and finally, attitude determination. Star identification consists of the implementation of the selected identification algorithm on the field of view stars and database searching. in the process of attitude determination using the star sensor, database searching is the most time-consuming part. This paper deals with three methods for database searching and surveys the search time for each of the presented algorithms also the consideration of using them as the database search methods for the star sensor. The methods are the ternary search technique, Fibonacci search technique, and interpolation search technique. The presented algorithms have not been used so far in the star sensor database searching. To survey the influence of the database dimensions on the identification time, each of the presented methods was studied using seven databases with different dimensions. The results show the superiority of the interpolation search method.

Due to the fact that the velocity of air flow in the combustion chamber of scramjets is supersonic, so there is not enough time for proper mixing of fuel and air at these high speeds, and studying the process of mixing of fuel and air in this situation is one of the important issues for scramjet engine design. One of the most widely used methods of fuel injection in supersonic flows of scramjet engine combustion chambers is the method of transverse injection into supersonic air crossflow. Since the velocity of the passing air is very high in such streams, it is challenging to achieve a suitable mixture for combustion. In the present work, by solving the three-dimensional Reynolds-Averaged-Navier-Stokes equations with the k-ω sst turbulence model and the ideal gas state equation, the transverse injection domain in the supersonic flow is numerically simulated and the effect of injection diameter is investigated based on the mixing properties such as fuel penetration depth, mixing efficiency, effective mixing area ratio and stagnation pressure losses. After that, results of reactive flow are presented.

Various methods are used to control and attenuate the adverse effects of shock wave/boundary layer interactions (SWBLIs) and improve the performance of supersonic aircraft inlet. In this study, passive slot control is presented as a new, practical method for this purpose and its effect on supersonic inlet performance is investigated. To do so, a rectangular supersonic air inlet is first modeled and meshed at design Mach number of 2.2 and mesh independency is examined using three-dimensional (3D) computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method to achieve an ideal mesh; the most suitable mesh is selected to continue the work. The results of numerical simulations are compared with those of other studies and validated to ensure the correctness of the solution. In this paper, the inlet performance is first discussed without slots at design Mach number of 2.2 and, then, its performance is evaluated by creating slots and considering various parameters. The results indicated that using slots increased the pressure recovery and, consequently, enhanced the inlet performance in off-design conditions. It was also found that creating slots caused the vertical waves to reach the inlet with a delay and effectively controlled the flow. Then, after selecting the best slot, the inlet performance was presented and compared in off-design conditions at Mach numbers of 2 and 2.4, both with and without slots; finally, the best geometry was determined

The purpose of this research is to use the artificial jet actuator to control the boundary layer with the approach of improving the aerodynamic performance of NASA GAW-2 supercritical airfoil in the post-stall region. In this research, unsteady Navier-Stokes equations were solved in turbulent and incompressible flow conditions using Fluent software. In this research, the excitation frequency factor has been studied as a parameter influencing the flow control by the artificial jet actuator. The results are presented for three dimensionless frequencies 1, 3 and 5. Under the effect of dimensionless frequency 5, the highest increase in the coefficient of attack was obtained for the angle of attack of 18 degrees, which has increased by 10% compared to the maximum for the uncontrolled state. The biggest decrease in the drag coefficient is related to the dimensionless frequency of 5 and the angle of attack of 20 degrees, in which the drag coefficient has decreased by 37% compared to the uncontrolled state. In the best control mode, the separation point is delayed by 25.8% of the chord length.

In this paper, the interaction effects of the rotational flows on aerodynamic efficiency of propeller for a twin engine aircraft are investigated. Variable pitch propellers allow us to change the propeller pitch angle at different flight phase (i.e. take off, climb, cruise, and landing) and thus it change the pressure distribution and aerodynamic loads on a wing and horizontal stabilizer. Therefore, in the design process the integration of engine-propeller thrust with aircraft performance is an important subject. The aerodynamic coefficient is in the case of power-off engine and different than the case where the engine is powered-on. This difference, changes the trim conditions and aircraft controllability. In this work, to evaluate the change of aerodynamic coefficient, the computational fluid dynamic (CFD) in steady form is implemented accordingly, the comparisons are made for different speeds and flight conditions at different propeller pitch settings. The validation is therefore performed based on the comparison of simulated lift against the semi empirical data from wind tunnel test. Furthermore, the effects on aerodynamic coefficient, stability and control derivatives are analyzed.

In aircraft with flexible high aspect ratio wings, it is possible to couple flight dynamics modes and aeroelasticity. This coupling can lead to the body-freedom flutter (BFF) phenomenon, which is the subject of this article. In this study, the planar flight dynamics assumption and the model of a complete aircraft with flexible wings have been used. In this type of aircraft, due to the high aspect ratio of the wings, the effects of nonlinear terms on the dynamic response of the aircraft cannot be ignored. Therefore, for modeling the structure, the generalized nonlinear flexible Euler-Bernoulli beam model with bending-bending-torsion degrees of freedom and for modeling the aerodynamics, the Wagner function with the static stall model has been used. Using the developed model, the nonlinear behavior of the wing and the aircraft due to the occurrence of the BFF and wing flutter (WF) is studied. Also, a sensitivity analysis for the BFF is done and post-instability limit cycle oscillations and subcritical behaviors are investigated.

In this study, the effect of material imperfection on the free vibration response of FG sandwich panel with piezoelectric face sheets is studied. A new hyperbolic shear deformation function is presented in this paper. The properties of the FG core varied along the thickness according to power law. The material composition in production process cannot be completely in accordance with the expected pattern, which leads to the production of imperfect FG material. Hence in this research, one perfect model and two types of imperfect models have been considered. The governing differential equations are derived using the Hamilton’s principle and solved using the Navier method. The effects of important geometric and mechanical parameters of perfect model and two types of imperfect model including thickness to length ratio, length to width ratio, FGM core to piezoelectric layer thickness ratio and electrical potential on natural frequency response of imperfect FG sandwich panel with piezoelectric face sheets are investigated. To verification, the analytical results obtained in this study are compared with the results presented in the literature, and in this comparison, a good agreement was obtained, which shows the correctness theory, deriving and solving equations.

Electrical discharge machining is a non-traditional machining process, which is widely used for machining high-strength metals and alloys with low machinability. Due to the thermoelectric nature of this process, the poor surface integrity of the parts produced by this method is one of its weaknesses. In this research, the electric discharge machining method has been used for the machining of Ti-6Al-4V alloy using carbon nanotubes added to the dielectric. In this study, input variables include discharge current intensity, pulse duration, and dielectric; the effect of their changes on the shape of the output pulses, material removal rate, tool wear ratio, surface rouhness and heat affected layer has been investigated. The results show that the addition of carbon nanotubes to the dielectric reduces the harmful pulses and increases the effective pulses in machining, reduces the matrial removal rate and decrease the tool wear rate. The presence of carbon nano tubes significantly improves the surface quality and reduces the heat-affected layer.
