Critical Theory: An Interdisciplinary Coursebook (in two volumes) is the most comprehensive work written by Dr. Hossein Payandeh in the realm of literary criticism and theory. The present book is a collection of the most widely used critical theories with an interdisciplinary approach. It is written for the post-graduate students (M.A. and PhD students) in humanities. Perhaps the most important feature of the present book is that the author has brought, in a very simple and lucid language, the theory and practice together. Also, for some chapters of the book an example is given from classical and contemporary Persian literature (both poetry and prose) and for some others the examples are taken from contemporary press and finally they are analyzed through the prism of discussed critical theories to make it more accessible. Some critical theories and approaches are missing in the book e.g. Deconstruction approach, Postcolonial theory, and Marxist theory.

Today, apart from Italians, millions of people are interested in Italian language learning and speak it all around the world. Due to this increasing trend, in this article with regard to the criteria proposed by the Council for Reviewing Books and Texts on Humanities, the writer has attempted to review both the structure and the content of the book called “Italian Grammar in Use” by Loredana La Cifra which aims at teaching Italian grammar to English speaking students with easy and clear explanations. Furthermore, series of suggestions were proposed to ameliorate both the quality and the content of the book for future printings.

Over the past two decades, and in dominant discourses of Humanities, the body has always been present; History, sociology, linguistics, poetics, anthropology, philosophy, communication sciences and marketing, among others, have always benefited from this concept. “Le corps et sens” by Jacques Fontanille is one of the most significant works ever written in this field. The title of the book, like other works published in this approach, goes in some way in line with the theoretical developments of the concept of sign from its creation in the tradition of structural and Saussurean semiotics to modern approaches to semiotic analysis. In this step a question arises in the field: why and how did the concept of the body find its place in semiotics and can it be excluded from its field of study? ? In this article, in addition to present and describe the work, the author seeks to critically analyze the issues.

This article examines the policy of teaching English language by the British colonial system in India in the nineteenth century. During this century, Orientalist debates in Britain on the contents and how-ness of education in India under the British colonial rule were entirely preoccupied British elite society. Among these views and discussions, the short essay entitled “Minute on Indian Education” by the English historian and politician Thomas Babingotn Macaulay in 1835 attracted much attention. In his essay, Macaulay wrote that anglicized Hindus must be created who has the role of intermediaries between the colonized Hindus and British colonialists. Therefore, in this article, the researcher aims to apply the theory of Orientalism coined by the Palestinian-American critic Edward Said in order to analyze the influence and policy of the colonial scheme of English language education in nineteenth century India. Furthermore, the long-term consequences of Macaulay’s policy in the field of teaching English language and colonial literature will be addressed as well.

Charles Le Blanc is professor at the University of Ottawa where he teaches translation and philosophy. In his recent book titled Histoire naturelle de la traduction, he uses folk tales to develop his ideas on translation. He places the translator at the heart of his thinking and presents translation as reading. According to him the translated text is not an original otherwise, but it is an original reading of a text and testifies to a particular relationship between the author and the translator as a particular reader. Different elements influence this reading and renew the need to retranslate over time.
