The 41st Cersaie, the International Exhibition of Ceramic Tile and Bathroom Furnishings running from 23 to 27 September in Bologna, is hosting a total of 560 brands including manufacturers of ceramic tiles and slabs, installation systems and materials, furnishings, sanitaryware and bathroom accessories, as well as ceramic glaze and colour producers and provid-ers of showroom services. These include 344 Italian and 216 foreign companies from over 20 countries, with the biggest contingent from Spain with 138 companies and brands. The show occupies a floor space of 145,000 square metres in fifteen halls. Cersaie 2024 reaffirms the show’s status as the premier venue for discovering innovative materials and solutions and for facilitating the exchange of ideas among industry professionals. The event showcases a diverse ecosystem of design products capable of meeting the needs of architects, contractors, interior designers and trade professionals from around the world.

Kaleseramik, Turkey’s largest ceramic manufacturer and one of the global leaders in the industry, has a current production capacity of 56 million sqm/year across 57 production lines. The company sells a wide range of products under its various brands (Çanakkale Seramik, Kalebodur, Edilcuoghi, Kalesinterflex and T-One) and has an extensive catalogue spanning 1,900 types of floor tiles in 50 different sizes and 2,200 types of wall tiles in 60 sizes. It launches around 200 new products onto the market every year. Ever since its early years, Kale Group has been committed to adopting ever more innovative technologies, most of which are inaugurated during the celebrations held at the Çan headquarters on 27 July each year to mark the anniversary of the group’s foundation back in 1957. On 27 July 2023, it officially started up its third line for the production of Kalesinterflex slabs with a production capacity of 1.5 million sqm/year and an additional capability to produce a 160x320 cm size in various thicknesses. This year, 27 July coincided with the announcement of a new technology investment plan aimed at supporting the group’s global growth.

The total construction output in the Euroconstruct area fell by 1.4 percent in 2023, which was slightly better than ex-pected six months ago. The negative trend will continue in 2024 with a decrease of 2.7 percent, mainly caused by signifi-cant challenges in the new residential sector in 15 of 19 Euroconstruct countries. A positive turning point is expected in 2025, with the positive trend continuing in 2026. This according to the new forecasts for the European construction sec-tors published at the 97th Euroconstruct conference in Stockholm on the 11th of June 2024.

Although the initial projections made in December indicated a potential downturn for the Italian ceramic machinery manufacturing sector, the final 2023 figures announced at Acimac’s Annual Members’ Meeting on 4 June revealed a modest increase in revenue compared to 2022. This small but significant 0.9% growth was sufficient to reach a new record turno-ver of €2,372 million. At the same time, however, the results showed a significant slowdown in the pace of growth com-pared to recent years (+39% in 2021 and +14% in 2022).
Domestic sales maintained the high levels achieved in 2022, dropping just 1% from €656 million to €648 million.
The sector continues to be driven by exports, which grew by 1.8% last year from €1,694 million to €1,724 million, equiva-lent to 72.7% of total turnover. Once again, this is the highest value in the industry’s history and comes on the heels of two years of sustained growth. The number of companies operating in the sector (138) and the number of employees (7,281) also remained practically unchanged.

The initiative brings together all the association’s international promotional efforts under a single logo and serves to highlight the many outstanding aspects of Italian technology on the global stage. Italy’s leadership in the ceramic machinery sector is the result of numerous factors, as Acimac’s Chairman Paolo Lamberti explained to us.

Tecna 2024, the international exhibition of surface technologies and supplies, will begin in just a few days’ time on 24 September in the Rimini Expo Centre. Spanning twelve exhibition halls with a total floor space of 67,000 square metres, the event will showcase cutting-edge ceramic technology from 330 exhibitors. Alongside all the Italian technology manufac-turers, 44% of the exhibitors taking part are international companies from 21 different countries, most prominently Spain, China, Turkey, India and Germany.
This year Tecna features a comprehensive and thought-provoking conference programme addressing the most topical themes for the industry, all of which will be held in the Innovation Arena in Hall D3.

Productivity, control and eco-friendly design are the three guiding principles behind Sacmi’s new “easy factory” concept showcased at Tecna 2024, the international exhibition of technologies and supplies for surfaces (Rimini Expo Centre, 24-27 September). Never before have so many innovations been showcased at a single event. The AVB casting bench is a multi-mould machine for the production of open-rim WCs or bidets. The module has a high level of productivity with an output of up to 450 WCs per day. The current range of machines are capable of installing up to eight 3-, 4- or 5-part moulds, making them suitable for the production of other types of products. Thanks to its out-standing characteristics and growing international popularity (with no fewer than 35 machines in operation worldwide), the Sacmi AVB pressure casting machine has established itself as a benchmark solution for the production of complex WCs.

Mirage, a renowned high-end Italian ceramic tile producer based in Pavullo in the province of Modena, has reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to sustainability. Its efforts are not limited to reducing the environmental impact of its prod-ucts and production processes, but also focus on packaging. In cooperation with Aliplast, part of Hera Group company Herambiente, Mirage recently initiated a circular process for the recovery of plastic films used in ceramic tile packaging.
